A61 Corridor
Award Winning Development on the A61 Corridor in Chesterfield
The A61 Corridor redevelopment of the former Dema Glass site has transformed this main route into Chesterfield with prominent and modern buildings. This former glassworks, just off the A61 has been redeveloped into a thriving hub of activity in the northern part of the town. It is home to a new Tesco Store and the exciting Proact Stadium and there are future development opportunities for commerce and offices.
The development includes:
A new 10,500 seat stadium for Chesterfield Football Club – the Proact Stadium
New 12,700 square m Tesco Extra store
A 100 bed four-star hotel and conference facility
New Aldi supermarket
Potential for a future park and ride service to operate from the stadium car park
The development so far has created 560 new jobs
Casa Hotel at Night
Opposite this development on the Lockford Road site sees the first four star hotel to be built in Chesterfield.
An iconic seven-storey building, The Casa Hotel is:
a 100 bed hotel with function & conferencing facilities
the HQ offices for Global Brands
Created 350 jobs
“The development of Casa, Chesterfields only 4* hotel has played a critical role in the regeneration of the Town. The hotel, created in the early stages of the regeneration, now provides a landmark building which acts as a gateway into the Town.
When considering the Hotel’s location it was decided that the Casa site had to sit within the regeneration corridor, along the dual carriageway and that its scale and appearance reflected the Councils ambition for the area and entrance to the Town.
The regeneration of Chesterfield, including the ambitious Waterside Project, is already creating a new found confidence in the Town and we are seeing business, previously directed to Sheffield and further afield, coming to the area. Chesterfield provides a fantastic location for both leisure and business visitors – we are in a central UK location and just 2 hours away from London by train which is a key attraction for conference organisers.
The addition of Casa, the football stadium development and other new venues are providing a great pull for new business and we are all working closely together to attract both business and leisure tourism. We are fully behind the regeneration activity and we are looking forward to seeing the Town thrive as a result.”
Stuart Downham, Operations Director at Casa Hotel.
Views on the A61 Corridor redevelopment
“The new Casa hotel has brought a spirit of optimism and ‘feel good’ factor to Chesterfield. The scheme is really confident in its identity and is a landmark building. Modern architecture of international quality has arrived . This will no doubt set the benchmark for other exciting developments that come forward in the major areas of change planned for Chesterfield.”
Peter Koyander, Koyander Associates
“This development has been the most positive initiative undertaken in the town of Chesterfield in many years. I have had personal experience of both the Casa Hotel and the Proact Stadium; both provide facilities that can compare with the best on offer in the UK.”
Steve Wicks, Yorkshire Bank
“The regeneration activity along the A61 corridor is only the start of Chesterfield’s renaissance. For many years, Chesterfield has been in the shadow of its larger neighbours in Sheffield and Derby until now. The recent developments have shown that the town is a vibrant location with ambitions that punch above its weight. The proposed Canal basin will eventually attract visitors to the town who have until now by-passed it. There can be no doubt that the town’s brand is already improving and with its central England location, bodes well for attracting continued inward investment.”
