Chesterfield Junior Blues win at the FA Community Awards 2017

Eight local grassroots champions from across Derbyshire have been named as this year’s winners of The Derbyshire County FA Community Awards, supported by McDonald’s.

The Derbyshire County FA (DCFA) is responsible for governing and developing football within the locality. Established in 1883, they are committed to offering and developing football for all in Derbyshire. The organisation is based at Pride Park, Derbyshire.

Since February people have been nominating their grassroots heroes within the county, from individual volunteers to Clubs and Leagues and the response has been fantastic.

Following the eight-week nomination period a judging panel, made up of local county FA and McDonald’s representatives, selected this year’s winners for their invaluable commitment to the grassroots game, week in, week out.

This year’s Derbyshire County FA winners include:

  • FA Charter Standard Club of the Year 2016/17 – Barlborough Juniors FC
  • FA Charter Standard Development Club of the Year 2016/17 – Chesterfield Junior Blues FC
  • FA Charter Standard Community Club of the Year 2016/17 – Glossop North End AFC
  • FA Young Volunteer of the Year 2016/17 – Sam James (Melbourne United)
  • Coach of the Year – Ben Mills (Glossop North End AFC Juniors)
  • FA Charter Standard League of the Year 2016/17 – Derby City League
  • Outstanding Contribution to Community Football 2016/17 – Alan Dawson (Derbyshire Girls & Ladies League)
  • Best Inclusive Project Award 2016/17 – BAME Referees Project

Liam Rooney, Football Development Manager at Derbyshire County FA, said:-

“We are fortunate to have so many fantastic clubs and volunteers who help us strive towards providing better and more footballing opportunities for young players. We know how much work goes into football on a weekly basis and The FA Community Awards supported by McDonald’s allow us to say thank you to those who dedicate so much time to the game across Derbyshire.

“We wish them all the best for the next stage of the awards and hopefully they can go all the way and pick up a national award later in the year.”
