Young Lions head to the Proact

Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium will host an England U17 fixture next month as part of a four-team tournament – organised in preparation for next summer’s U17 European Championships on home soil.

The Young Lions will face Portugal at the Proact on Wednesday, November 8, kick-off 7pm. Ticket details will be announced in due course.

St George’s Park will host three of the six matches with Burton Albion and Rotherham United the other venues.

Steve Cooper will lead a squad who played two behind-closed-doors matches at The FA’s national football centre and a friendly tournament decider against Italy at Kidderminster Harriers’ Aggborough home in August.

Cooper said:-

“We’re looking forward to visiting each of the venues and preparing for a major tournament in front of our home crowds.”

Michael Dunford, Chief Executive of Chesterfield FC, said:-

“We are honoured to be welcoming international football to our stadium once again. It is a clear indication that the Proact is on the football map.

“This match will give the Chesterfield public an opportunity to watch some one of the brightest young talents in the English game in action.”

The Proact Stadium has hosted a number of international fixtures. The first one was in 2011 when the England U19 side faced their German counterparts in a friendly. The stadium was also used as a venue for the 2014 UEFA European Women’s U17 Championship finals.

Ticket details for the match will be announced in due course.
