Santa Fun Run raises five-figure sum

It has been announced that the 2017 Chesterfield CBD Training Ltd Santa Fun Run & Walk and Unit 1 Martial Arts 1500 metre Fun Run & Walk raised over £10,000 for local charities.

The Chesterfield Santa Fun Run, which was held in Queen’s Park, on Christmas Eve, saw 1,300 people dressed in Santa suits take part with a total of £10,717.45 raised for Ashgate Hospicecare, The Mayor’s Appeal: Retreat at The Royal and Weston Park cancer hospital.

Organiser John Cannon admitted that the outcome exceeded his expectations. He said:-

“I was really, really pleased with how it went on the day and I’m absolutely delighted with the amount that we’ve raised. I didn’t think we’d raise that much.

“I’ve had fantastic support from CBD Training, Unit 1 Martial Arts, Elastic FM, Chesterfield FC and Chesterfield FC Community Trust, together with numerous individuals. I’d like to thank everyone who made it possible.”

John revealed that this year’s Chesterfield Santa Fun Run will be staged on Sunday, December 23 and tweaked to encourage the elderly and those with disabilities to take part. He said:-

“We want to involve people who are in wheelchairs and we’ll also have a mobility scooter race.

“I’m hoping we can have over 1,500 people taking part.”

Further details about the event will be revealed later in the year.
