Join Chesterfield Borough Council for a Poolsbrook litter pick up

Residents are being invited to take part in community litter pick of Poolsbrook Country Park being jointly run by Chesterfield Borough Council and McDonalds.

Around 20 staff from the McDonalds branch at junction 29A of the M1 will join the council’s parks and environmental health teams from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Wednesday 13 June to clear as much of the country park of unsightly litter as possible.

And they have issued a plea for residents and visitors to join them so that more of the area can be transformed for the benefit of park users.

Councillor Chris Ludlow, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said:-

“We know from resident surveys that having good quality parks and open spaces is really important to people in the borough.

“Unfortunately some visitors to beautiful places like Poolsbrook Country Park choose not to respect these areas and drop litter which can be unsightly but also cause problems for the wildlife in the area.

“Staff from McDonalds are working with us on this clean-up of the country park but the more people we can get to join in the better the job that can be done.

“So if you want to see your environment improved please come and join us on the day.”

In the past year the Poolsbrook Country Park area has suffered from fly-tipping and rubbish being dumped, particularly fast food waste in the pavilion car park area.

Walter Wright, McDonald’s franchisee who owns and operates nine restaurants in Chesterfield, Sheffield and Newark, said:-

“I’m so pleased our crew are supporting Chesterfield Borough Council to help tidy up the local area.

“It’s a key priority of ours as a business to ensure that the local area remains free of litter and an enjoyable place to live, work and visit.

“We are delighted to support this fantastic event in Poolsbrook Country Park and look forward to seeing members of the local community joining in too.”

Anyone who wants to take part can just meet up at the pavilion next to the café in Poolsbrook Country Park at 10.30am on Wednesday 13 June.
