University of Derby named one of the world’s top 250 young universities

The University of Derby has been included as one of the world’s top 250 new universities, in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2018.

Institutions from 55 different countries are included in this year’s edition of the Rankings, of universities aged 50 and under.

This league table applies the same rigorous 13 performance indicators as the overall THE World University Rankings, announced later this year. Young universities are measured across their teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.

Of the 250 universities included in the rankings, 31 are from the UK.

Welcoming these results today, Professor Kathryn Mitchell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Derby, said:-

“The inclusion of the University in the Young University Rankings 2018 is a significant achievement and testament to our outstanding progress over 25 years. They denote the commitment and hard work of our staff in enabling us to achieve great outcomes for our students, as well as international recognition for our research. As a Gold TEF rated institution, it is also recognition of our excellence in teaching quality.

“This comes on the back of our strong performance last week in the Guardian University Guide 2019, which saw Derby rise 25 places to 29th – our highest ever ranking.”
