Borough Council agrees deal to fund voluntary groups

Voluntary groups in Chesterfield will benefit from a two year funding deal agreed by Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet.

At their meeting on Tuesday 17 July, cabinet members agreed a total of £479,088 of funding until March 2020 for advice organisations Citizens Advice Chesterfield, Derbyshire Law Centre, Derbyshire Unemployed Workers’ Centre, Shopmobility and Links CVS.

Councillor Tricia Gilby, Chesterfield Borough Council’s leader, said: “Although the council is facing financial pressures, we understand that many of our residents are too, particularly since the introduction of Universal Credit.

“As part of our commitment to putting our communities first, we have agreed to continue to fund these voluntary organisations for the next two years to allow them to continue carrying out their really valuable work helping people in Chesterfield.”

A review will be carried out of the funding given to voluntary organisations by the council before the end of this two year period to make sure funding is being given to organisations where it is most needed in line with the council’s new Council Plan.

Results of the review will be announced before the award of funding in 2020.
