Chesterfield Borough Council wins award for support services
Chesterfield Borough Council has picked up an award for the work it does to support older and vulnerable people.
It has received the Derbyshire Dignity Award from Derbyshire County Council to recognise the work it carries out in both council and privately owned homes.
As part of the award submission judges were given the example of work carried out at Markham Court in Duckmanton. This has seen council staff work closely with tenants to set up a gardening club and an arts and crafts group, allowing residents to choose the colours in new areas of the complex and working with Age Concern to provide activities to support healthy mind activities.
Councillor Helen Bagley, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for homes and customers, said: “I’m pleased that the work of our staff in supporting residents across the borough has been recognised.
“Our support service helps people to live safely and independently at home by providing support tailored to their particular needs.
“Dedicated support officers make regular visits to support people in their home and help maintain their independence.”
