Chesterfield Champions

UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA)

Based at the Markham Vale Environment Centre, UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) sets the standards in asbestos awareness training and ensures its members meet those standards. The association has over 200 members nationwide, effectively managed by a small but dedicated team at the UKATA headquarters.

The location of the head office at Markham Vale means there are direct links to the M1 via J29a, and easy access to the train station for any business travel arrangements.

Speaking of his passion to work with Destination Chesterfield to help promote the town and develop the local economy, UKATA General Manager, Craig Evans said:-

“Business in Chesterfield must be vocal in promoting what this region has to offer and as such, UKATA is proud to be joining the Chesterfield Champions scheme.”

“Many organisations, UKATA included, have made Chesterfield their home for good reason. This is a great region for business and this message is one we at UKATA can endorse strongly. Many local companies work together for mutual benefit and this is another advantage Chesterfield can offer those thinking of relocating here.”

Recruitment and training opportunities
Everyone in the office team is a Chesterfield resident and being a part of the Chesterfield business community, and supporting local people is one of the reasons behind becoming a Chesterfield Champion. The team has been offered a range of training courses in association with Destination Chesterfield and the feedback received has been excellent. UKATA offers work experience placements/internships to local students across Derbyshire. To be involved with up and coming projects and new initiatives in Chesterfield is something UKATA would like to support and hopes to join together and unite with like-minded local organisations. UKATA is also a member of East Midlands Chamber and actively supports the apprenticeship scheme.

Raising Awareness
Raising awareness of the dangers of working with asbestos is a message the association is passionate about sharing locally, nationally and globally. By joining Chesterfield Champions the team can help to spread the message to more people and is closer to achieving its goal.

Charities and Sponsorship
UKATA currently supports Chesterfield based charity Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team – DAST and sponsor Staveley Minors Welfare U9s FC. UKATA is also proud to announce they have signed up as a corporate donor for Mesothelioma UK in 2017
