New University Campus for Chesterfield
In October 2016, the University of Derby opened the doors to its new campus at the St Helena building, formerly Chesterfield Girls High School. Built in 1845 from local stone, this striking Grade II listed building has been transformed to provide state of the art, world class university facilities that will inspire future generations of Nursing, Health, Business, Computing, Law and Engineering students.
Contributing over £240.3m to the regional and wider economy and employing nearly 2,000 people, the University of Derby provides far-reaching impact and support. The opening of the new Chesterfield campus and bringing the benefits of a university to the market town of Chesterfield is an exciting prospect for everyone.
St Helena’s Campus in Chesterfield
With its historic past as the heart of industrial England, Chesterfield is still a hub of commercial and industrial activity with opportunities for work placements and local networking. The new Chesterfield campus provides exciting opportunities to build on the existing working relationships with Chesterfield Royal Infirmary and Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust to become a centre of excellence in Healthcare studies in the UK.
Facilities include teaching rooms, IT suites, a clinical skills suite, six bed mock ward and an immersive simulation suite to represent a range of working environments. This substantial investment in real world learning reflects the University of Derby’s commitment to providing relevant and highly personal education. Like the building’s original founders, the new Chesterfield Campus will pioneer learning and infuse social and financial benefits in the region and beyond.

Degrees on offer at St Helena’s Campus will include Adult Nursing, Business and more. The campus will also offer additional services serving the student and local communities including a café and student wellbeing support services.

The campus will have strong links with IISE and will provide local engineering companies with resources for research and innovation.
