Award for Chesterfield-based coach
Dave Cartawick from Unit1 Fitness & Martial Arts in Chesterfield won the Community Coach/Activator award at the recent Towards an Active Derbyshire Awards.
Cartawick received the award, which he also won last year, in recognition of his contribution to the achievements/personal success/behaviour change of others.
Commenting on the award, which was presented at the event held at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery, Cartawick said: “It just shows that we are doing the right things for our students and the community.
“There are probably 3,000-4,000 coaches within Derbyshire and to be consistently up there over the last few years shows that we’re doing some really good work.
“For our students and members, they can have that trust and belief that we are doing the right things for them.”
Cartawick outlined Unit1’s plans for expansion, saying: “We’ve got a great team and we’re pushing forward. We’re looking at another venue, specifically for fitness classes and personal training.”
Unit1 Fitness & Martial Arts also hold satellite classes in Bolsover & North-East Derbyshire, as well as South/West/North Yorkshire. They have around 700 members, ranging in age from four to 75 years.
As well as delivering martial arts classes, Cartawick and his team of coaches focus on developing confidence, improving mental health and wellbeing, teamwork and fitness.
