Tinchy Stryder and A1 among the exciting acts confirmed for Chesterfield Pride 2023

Chesterfield Pride has confirmed a host of exciting new acts for the 2023 festival, including 90’s boyband A1 and rapper Tinchy Stryder.

The festival returns this summer to Stand Road Park on Sunday July 23rd, and organisers say they have a huge event planned.

The festival which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and is one of the largest of it’s kind in our region, will host two stages packed with entertainment, market stalls, fabulous food vendors and more.

Headlining the University of Derby Main Stage will be 90’s boyband A1. They head a stellar line up including Tinchy Stryder, Stooshe, Alex Party and Lolly, with more acts still to be announced.

Over on the Kranlee Cabaret Stage, the festival has confirmed it will be headlined by Lawrence Chaney, who was the season two winner of Ru Paul’s Drag race.

The Cabaret Stage will see amazing performers from tribute artists, drag queens and the best of unsigned local artists including Sammy Murdock, Poppy-Mai and Alfie Darlin.

Organiser Dan Walker commented: “I am so excited for this summer’s event. This is our biggest ever line up of artists. We have some amazing talent performing from artists who have sold millions worldwide to amazing local performers.

“There is so much going on throughout the day. We have amazing food vendors, our brand new KidsZone, market area and lots more. We are proud to be a community event open to everyone”

City Taxis agrees tasty partnership with Eat in the Park Festival

City Taxis has announced a partnership with Chesterfield’s new food and music festival, Eat In The Park. 

The festival is set to make its debut in Chesterfield this August, after holding a string of successful festivals since it’s 2020 launch in Buxton.

Set to take place over the weekend of August 5th and 6th in Queens Park, the festival promises to be a fun-packed family-friendly weekend, with live music from top tribute bands, delicious food including Chesterfield favourite, Fat Pig BBQ, and locally sourced drinks from Buxton Brewery.

Chatsworth announces signature events and new additions for 2023

An exhibition celebrating Chatsworth’s 500-year history of design and creativity leads a season of discovery across the house, garden and park of the Derbyshire estate this year. Mirror Mirror: Reflections on Design at Chatsworth opens 18 March 2023.

All the signature events are back, from the Chatsworth International Horse Trials in May to the three-day Chatsworth Country Fair in September with the show stopping festive season opening in early November. New for 2023 is a Celebration of Derbyshire Women for International Women’s Day.

As well as the popular annual events, a year of discovery awaits the curious with a carefully curated programme of activities from landscape drawing and gardening clubs to exploring literary gems in the library and getting a behind-the-scenes insight into the historic textiles conservation.

Chatsworth Farmyard and Adventure Playground: 11 – 26 February 2023

Opening for February half-term, there is plenty for children to enjoy from feeding the animals to learning all about the rare breeds thriving at the farmyard including the Suffolk Punch horses, Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs, Bagot goats and Cream Legbar chickens. The farmyard has Rare Breeds Survival Trust accreditation in recognition of its important contribution to the conservation of some the rarest livestock and equine breeds native to the UK, making it the perfect place to see these animals up close. There will also be crafty creative sessions under cover and tractor and trailer Discovery tours into Stand Wood.

International Women’s Day: 10 March 2023

Curated and hosted by the High Sheriff in Nomination 2023/24, Theresa Peltier, a celebration of Derbyshire women will take place at Chatsworth. The day will feature displays and a rolling series of talks, discussions and performances by women from a diverse range of backgrounds on topics as broad as running small businesses, creating art, or providing charity and other services to the communities of Derbyshire. This free to access, drop-in event is open to all and also features local singer songwriter Carol Fieldhouse; writer, poet and performer Seni Seneviratne; resident sculptor at Derbyshire Eco Centre, Sue Allanson; Derbyshire Lord Lieutenant Mrs. Elizabeth Fothergill CBE and charities such as Women’s Work and Adoption East Midlands.

Mirror Mirror: Reflections on Design at Chatsworth: 18 March – 1 October 2023

Chatsworth has been a centre for creativity and new ideas for more than 500 years. This exhibition brings the legacy up to date and introduces new works from 16 leading international artists to the house and garden. Contemporary pieces in the historic setting make unexpected connections with the architecture, interiors, furniture, ceramics as well as its essential materials of glass, stone, wood, and light.

Chatsworth’s must visit Christmas season will see the house transformed from early November. While the theme is a hotly guarded secret until September, preparations are already underway for the show-stopping festive display.

In the garden

The ongoing work around the recently developed area of the garden known as Arcadia continues, with the glades now looking spectacular as the planting led by designer Tom Stuart-Smith has become established since it was planted. Other work includes 200 Rhododendrons being planted to repopulate the area around the Ravine and Grotto Pond. This year, there are more opportunities to engage with the 105-acre garden from landscape sketching and creative sessions for children to gardening clubs for all ages, as well as talks and workshops from the expert garden team.

In the park

Free to access all year-round with free parking until 16 March, and well-served by local transport links, the trails and paths in Chatsworth Park offer the perfect setting for enjoying the Derbyshire landscape. Three new waymarked paths have been created in Stand Wood above the house to make it easier to explore the medieval woodland located on the hill near the farmyard. For those who would like to find out more about the landscape, an expert from the park team will be running two hour walking tours focusing on the flora and fauna and sharing insights into what goes into managing the estate which includes 1,000 acres of parkland and the river Derwent.

Dronfield Arts Festival 2023 to entertain the whole family this Summer

Organisers of the Dronfield Arts Festival say they are excited to be bringing a bumper lineup of music, food and entertainment to the event this year.

Taking place from 7th-9th July, the festival will begin on Friday with an evening of music at Dronfield Hall Barn, featuring several local bands. Confirmed to perform on the evening are The Cellar Thieves, McShane and Shaw, Phil Doleman and Barnsdale Hood.

On Saturday 8th July, the festival then moves across to manor gardens, Civic Hall and the Barn with a variety of acts, food and entertainments throughout the day. Saturday night will see the Greentop Circus performing a cabaret style show at the Civic Hall.

The final day of the festival will once again see a mix of acts, food and entertainments throughout the day.

Sam Reavey, Creative Manager at Dronfield Heritage Trust commented: “We are super excited to be bringing the Arts Festival. This year we have moved the date to July, so it will be even more anticipated when the date comes around.

“The Arts Festival is designed to bring the whole community together. We offer a wide range of different entertainments and refreshments and make as much as we can free. The festival has the opportunity to bring communities together and instils a sense of community pride. We hope our festival teach people new things, and strengthen relationships.

“The footfall our the weekend goes into the 1000s, and is the perfect opportunity for businesses to connect with new or existing customers. Being a part of the festival hopefully benefits businesses both economically and holistically.”

Exciting new music and food festival to arrive in Chesterfield this summer

A new music and food festival is set to bring thousands of visitors to Chesterfield, with a number of exciting acts already confirmed.

Eat In The Park has already proven a successful event in nearby Buxton, and those in attendance at the Chesterfield event will enjoy two stages full of entertainment for all the family and food vendors selling food from around the globe.

The event, which takes place over two days on the 5th and 6th August will see world-renowned tributes to The Killers, Abba, Take That and Arctic Monkeys take to the stage, among many others.

Taking place in one of the town’s most scenic locations, Queen’s Park, Eat in the Park is part of a host of great events coming to Chesterfield this Summer.

Speaking about the event, Eat In The Park Co-Founder Jake Burnham commented: “We’re extremely excited to be bringing Eat In The Park to Chesterfield for the first time this year.

“Over the weekend, there will be food, entertainment and music to suit all tastes, providing a great experience for the whole family.

“Our event sees Main Stage and the Buxton Brewery Tent stage, both with six acts appearing on each stage each day. There will be a mixture of tribute acts and local performers to entertain those attending, as well as entertainment for children with the performers singing a range of well-known children’s songs from TV and film.”

Chesterfield’s popular Walking Festival to return in May 2023

Residents and visitors being encouraged to get outdoors and enjoy what our town and wider area has to offer, as the popular Chesterfield Area Walking Festival returns for another year.

The annual festival takes place from Saturday 13 to Sunday 21 May 2023 and it includes gentle strolls, family walks and big days out for seasoned hikers. Tickets for the festival will be available to book from Monday 13 February.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “The Chesterfield Area Walking Festival is a great event that encourages you to explore the beautiful countryside locations around Chesterfield, Bolsover and North East Derbyshire. It will help you discover some hidden gems that you may not be aware of and the programme has been designed to ensure that there are walks suitable for all abilities.

“The festival is always really popular and regularly sells out. If any of the events interest you, then book your ticket as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”

There are lots of different types of walks planned, there are walks for the family to enjoy like the Bumblebee Safari where you can find out more about these important pollinators, a Buggy Walk for parents of young children around Queen’s Park, a family friendly Wildlife Hunt and the popular Boat and Boots which includes a trip along the Chesterfield Canal.

Walks focussed on history include an exploration of Creswell Crags and Holbeck, a tour focused on the restoration of the Chesterfield Canal, a guided walk discovering the history of the Avenue Country Park, and a tour of the Chesterfield Museum stores, featuring items from the collection some of which have not been on display before.

For the more experienced hiker the festival includes a few strenuous walks like the popular 34-mile Chesterfield Round, a tour of Harewood and Longside Moors and a hike around the Big Moor Stone Circles.

Booking is essential but most walks included in the festival are free to attend, with a small fee for the rest.

Chesterfield to host a packed programme of events in 2023

Residents and visitors are encouraged to ‘save the date,’ as details of a packed programme of events is coming to Chesterfield are announced for 2023 – including some exciting new additions.

Designed to provide fun and unique experiences for our communities, this year’s events programme will continue to support the town centre and the wider borough by encouraging people to spend more time in Chesterfield, while enjoying the borough’s award-winning parks.

Among the new Chesterfield events in 2023 is Eat in the Park – a two-day live music event hosted in Queen’s Park this summer. The event, which will include two stages full of entertainment for all the family and food vendors selling food from around the globe, will take place on 5 and 6 August 2023, with tickets on sale now.

There will be two stages, the main stage and the Buxton Brewery Tent stage, both with six acts appearing on each stage each day. There will be a mixture of tribute acts and local performers to entertain those attending, as well as entertainment for children with the performers singing a range of well-known children’s songs from TV and film.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “Chesterfield is set to be a hive of activity this year, with a fantastic range of entertainment happening in and around the town centre, and in our award-winning parks.

“We’re delighted to welcome the Eat in the Park event as an exciting new addition to this year’s calendar. This took place in Buxton for the first time last year and was very successful, with just under 5,000 people attending the event each day – and we’re sure it will be just as popular in Chesterfield this summer.”

One of the Eat in the Park event organisers Jake Burnham explained: “We are extremely excited to bring Eat in the Park to Queen’s Park in Chesterfield – it’s a great town to hold the second event in and we can’t wait until August.”

The Chesterfield Food and Drink Festival is taking place on 22 and 23 July and will include a variety of food retailers, as well as a drinks marquee. Children at the event will also be able to enjoy the Bubble Magicians and other entertainment. There will also be music at the event from a few local bands too.

Councillor Kate Sarvent continued: “The Chesterfield Food and Drink Festival is a new edition to the event calendar too, this will take place in Queen’s Park in July and is free to enter.”

Now a firm favourite on the calendar, the popular Chesterfield Pride event will take centre stage at Stand Road Park on 23 July – with live music and acts throughout the day. The event is now recognised as the region’s biggest LGBTQ celebration.

Chesterfield Borough Council’s events programme is part of the Love Chesterfield campaign – launched in partnership with Destination Chesterfield to celebrate everything that’s great about the town, while supporting the trading ambitions of local retail, hospitality and leisure businesses.

Councillor Sarvent added: “As well as some new additions to our line up we’re also planning for the return of some of people’s favourite local events – including the Medieval Fun Day and the 1940s Market. It’s all about bringing Chesterfield to life, creating opportunities for people to make lasting memories, and to come out and show their support for our amazing local businesses.”

Chesterfield Festival of Cricket – 11 June – 18 June

The Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, in association with Chesterfield Borough Council, returns to Queen’s Park this June. The event promises to be the biggest ever festival at the park with Derbyshire facing Yorkshire in the County Championship, starting on Sunday 11 June, before the Falcons take on the Vikings in Vitality Blast action on Sunday 18 June. 1940s Market – Thursday 2 November

Crowds are expected to flock to Chesterfield to attend the 1940s market, a great event for all vintage fans. The event is taking place on 2 November, from 10am to 3.30pm to tie in with Chesterfield’s much-loved Flea Market.

Fireworks – Friday 3 November

Chesterfield Borough Council’s annual fireworks extravaganza is due to take place on 3 November and will be an event for the whole family to enjoy. Taking place at Stand Road Recreation Ground, Whittington Moor there will be a range of entertainment on the main stage – as well as the popular fireworks display.

Chesterfield Market and Christmas Lights Switch On – Sunday 19 November

Looking forward to Christmas 2023, the festive Christmas lights switch on is taking place on 19 November from 12 noon to 6pm and will be a great free afternoon out for all the family.

Peak District Highland Games recognised with national award

A major event in North Derbyshire, which attracts thousands of visitors each year has scooped a prestigious national award. The Peak District Highland Games, hosted by Matlock Farm Park and Man Beast Strongman Events won the ‘Best Event ‘ prize at the 2023 National Farm Attractions Network awards.

The coveted ceremony shines a light on farm parks all over the country who have membership with the highly-regarded organisation.

Lotty Hawkins, Assistant Manager at Matlock Farm Park commented: Matlock Farm Park is just thrilled to win the Best Event award from NFAN, with such strong competition from the best farm parks in the land.

“There’s such a large amount of preparation in the build up to the day, compared to other events we host, for instance setting up extra catering and stalls, grandstand seating, organising sponsors, promotion including our big social media prize giveaway campaign and more, but it is entirely worth it because it is such a special and unique event.

“Not only is it the farm park’s flagship event, but it’s a key Summer event for the region, gaining more of a following each year. Our team work so hard on the day, but they really enjoy the camaraderie of it all!

“It’s all with thanks of course to the super Man Beast organisers and athletes with their planning and delivery. Chesterfield Pride shortlisted for national award

The annual Chesterfield Pride Festival has been recognised amongst the best grassroots LGBTQ+ events across the UK.

The celebration, which takes place every year in Stand Road Park has been nominated for “Grassroots Pride of the Year Award” at the 2023 Pride Awards, hosted by LGBTQ+ radio station Gaydio.

To make it into the shortlist of finalists, Chesterfield Pride was nominated by the public, before being judged by an independent community panel, with members working across a variety of sectors both publicly and privately.

Chesterfield Pride is one of the biggest and best attended Pride events in the region, with thousands of people attending each year.

Dan Walker, organiser of Chesterfield Pride commented: “We are thrilled to be nominated for this award. Grassroot Pride events are vital for our communities and we really proud of the event we have in Chesterfield.

“Chesterfield Pride has grown year on year and 2022 saw our largest event yet. We are passionate about creating an event that is open to all areas of our community and always look to how we can improve going forward. Thank you once again to all those that took the time to nominate us for this award.”

The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, 10th February 2023 at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate. The evening will bring people from across the LGBTQ+ community together to recognize the extraordinary efforts to bring Pride to all corners of the UK across ten categories.

Chesterfield Pride is set to return on Sunday 23rd July 2023 for another packed day of entertainment. The Main Stage will have a variety of well known artists performing, including chart topping stars and faces from stage and screen. Meanwhile the Cabaret Stage will see some of the best of unsigned talent, fabulous Drag Queens and comedy performers.

Have your say on Chesterfield town centres

Chesterfield residents and local business owners are being encouraged to complete our quarterly consumer and business surveys to help us to learn more about how you / your customers use services in our town centres.

Love Chesterfield is a campaign organised by Chesterfield Borough Council in partnership with Destination Chesterfield to promote and support high streets and town centres across the borough of Chesterfield.

The quick surveys will ask you questions about your business performance and any changes you have noticed in the last three months (October – December 2022) if you are a business owner, and the consumer survey will ask you to update us on what events or venues you have attended and services you have used recently in our communities.

Please spend a few minutes to complete the relevant questionnaire. The results will allow us to monitor the performance of the town, the success of marketing campaigns and business support and will help to shape future activity to support high street businesses across the borough.

Derbyshire to return to Queen’s Park in 2023 for the Chesterfield Festival of Cricket

The fixture list has been confirmed ahead of the 2023 County Cricket season, with Derbyshire set to return to Queen’s Park in Chesterfield to do battle with local rivals Yorkshire.

Derbyshire will be beginning their campaign at home to Worcestershire in the LV= County Championship, starting on Thursday 6 April.

Mickey Arthur’s side will be looking to make a strong start to the red ball season, with two games on the road in April, before Derbyshire host Leicestershire and Gloucestershire in an opening block of five-successive first-class fixtures.

The Chesterfield Festival of Cricket returns in June, and promises to be the biggest ever, with Derbyshire facing Yorkshire in the County Championship, starting on Sunday 11 June, before the Falcons take on the Vikings in Vitality Blast action on Sunday 18 June, meaning five huge days of action at Queen’s Park.

Last season’s action in Chesterfield saw Derbyshire beat Middlesex by six wickets in the County Championship, and the Falcons securing a six-wicket win over Yorkshire in the T20 match, which was played in front of a sellout crowd.

The blockbuster clashes are also back in Derby next summer, with five Vitality Blast fixtures set to take place at The Incora County Ground, headlined by the East Midlands Derby against Notts Outlaws on Friday 9 June.

The Vitality Blast will kick off with the historic Blast Off at Edgbaston on Saturday 20 May, where the Falcons will take on Lancashire Lightning in front of a bumper crowd on the biggest stage.

On Monday 29 May, a Bank Holiday, The Incora County Ground will play host to a special double-header, as The Blaze take on Southern Vipers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, before Derbyshire Falcons take on Northants Steelbacks in the Vitality Blast under the floodlights.

In total, Derbyshire’s 2023 schedule includes 39 days of home cricket, while Members can also enjoy free access to England fixtures hosted at Derby, meaning Membership remains the best-value way to follow Derbyshire in 2023.
