Dementia Friendly Screening: The Muppet Christmas Carol

Dementia Friendly screenings are for customers with dementia and their family and friends.

The Muppets perform the classic Dickens holiday tale, with Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine). Other Muppets — Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear and Sam the Eagle — weave in and out of the story, while Scrooge receives visits from spirits of three Christmases — past, present and future. They show him the error of his self-serving ways, but the miserable old man seems to be past any hope of redemption and happiness. (1992, 89min)

The main differences between regular and dementia friendly screenings are:

  • Additional dementia friendly signage around the venue
  • No adverts, trailers or commercials
  • The lights are left on low and the sound levels reduced
  • Screenings are relaxed, with the audience encourage to sing, dance, move around and talk during the film
  • Additional wheelchair user spaces are available
  • 15-minute interval
  • There are volunteers and additional staff to assist you
  • The ticket price includes refreshments
