Discover the categories for Chesterfield High Street Awards
In 2020 there were two new categories including High Street Business of the Year and the Future High Street Award.
The finalists were announced on 29th July 2020 and the winners were revealed at a virtual awards ceremony on 21st October 2020.
In 2021 the Chesterfield High Street Awards will merge with the popular Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards to boost the profile of both sectors. The new awards ceremony will feature new categories in business development and social responsibility. More information coming soon here.
2020 categories
New for 2020 – High Street Business of the Year – sponsored by eBusiness Works
Which is the best non-retail business that brings vitality to high streets across Chesterfield – in the town centre, on Chatsworth Road, on Whittington Moor, on Staveley High Street and Hasland Road? This category celebrates the many businesses that aren’t retailers but have a physical presence in our retail areas across the borough of Chesterfield.
Please note this category is not open to hospitality businesses – these are recognised in the Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards.

Recognising the physical improvements and development of the high streets across Chesterfield. We’ve selected four of our favourite improvements – let us know which you think is the best.
Best Town Centre Event – presented by Derbyshire Times
Introduced in 2019, this category celebrates the events that drive footfall and bring vitality to Chesterfield town centre.
Best Customer Service – sponsored by Redbrik Estate Agents
The winner will show excellence in customer service by putting its customers first and going beyond the norm. Open to retailers in the borough of Chesterfield.
Retailer of the Year – sponsored by East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire)
This category will be selected from the winners across all the retail categories following the judging period. The three finalists will be announced at the awards ceremony.
Best New Store – sponsored by JP Fire Safety Solutions
This award is open to new retailers which have opened up in the borough of Chesterfield over the past year. The judges will be looking for a shop that brings something new to the town and has the potential to grow and become an established name on the Chesterfield High Street.
To be eligible the store must have opened or started trading in Chesterfield in 2019 or 2020. (This can include an existing business moving to new premises in the town. Please note this category is open to retailers in the borough of Chesterfield.)
National / Multiple Retailer of the Year – sponsored by The Pavements Shopping Centre
This category is open to national brands but also local businesses that have multiple branches of their business. The judges will be looking for excellence from the branch in Chesterfield and not the national awareness or performance of a well known retail brand. (Please note this category is open to retailers in the borough of Chesterfield.)
Food and Drink Retailer of the Year – sponsored by BRM Solicitors
Nominate your favourite food and drink retailers; it could be a butcher, a farm shop or a deli, for example. This category isn’t for restaurants, cafes or pubs (you can vote for those in our Food and Drink Awards in the summer) – it’s open to retailers in the borough of Chesterfield.
Fashion and Footwear Retailer of the Year – presented by Destination Chesterfield
Which are your favourite fashion and footwear retailers? Which stores offer excellent customer service and can advise you on the latest trends and fashions? Open to retailers in the borough of Chesterfield.
Hair and Beauty Business Of the Year – presented by Greatest Hits Radio (North Derbyshire)
We’re looking for the best hair and beauty business in the borough of Chesterfield. This could be a salon or a hair and beauty retailer.
Home, Gifts and Leisure Retailer of the Year – sponsored by Maybe*

This category celebrates apprentices working in both retail and service businesses with a physical presence in our retail areas across the borough of Chesterfield. The apprenticeship must have taken place in 2019 or 2020. Apply by completing this application form.
