Judging

Judging Chesterfield High Street Awards

To select the finalists and the winners of the Chesterfield High Street Awards there were three stages.

In 2021 the Chesterfield High Street Awards will merge with the popular Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards to boost the profile of both sectors.  The new awards ceremony will feature new categories in business development and social responsibility.  More information coming soon here.

1) For most of the categories, the public nominates their favourite high street businesses for one or more of the Chesterfield High Street Awards. (A business may encourage their customers to nominate them but any establishment found offering incentives or competitions to nominate their business for an award will be disqualified.)

2) The team at Destination Chesterfield scores each nominated business by looking at the number of votes received from the public, Facebook and Google ratings and comments, the company’s website and social media activity, any awards they have achieved.  Three finalists are shortlisted in each category based on the three highest scores.

3) All finalists are contacted by social media or email and visited by one independent judge, who scores the establishments based on their experience on the day.  The score is combined with the original scoring (for Google reviews, votes, online activity, any awards received) to find the winner.

Independent Retailer of the Year and National Retailer of the Year – businesses shortlisted in these categories will also be asked to complete an application form looking at certain criteria including – experiences, technology, sustainability, community and partnership working.

Best Town Centre Event – this category is selected by public vote.  The three finalists may be contacted by the team at Destination Chesterfield for further information if required.

Future High Street Award – this category is selected by public vote.  The three finalists may be contacted by the team at Destination Chesterfield for further information if required.

Apprentice of the Year and Apprentice Employer of the Year – these categories are assessed by an application form, which can be completed by either the apprentice or the employer of the apprentice.  The businesses and individuals may also be contacted for further information if required.

There is no cost to enter the Chesterfield High Street Awards.

There are multiple stages to assess the many aspects of the businesses and to try to ensure an independent approach in selecting the winners. No judges or members of the Destination Chesterfield team are involved in more than one part of this process.  The aim is to recognise the businesses that are both popular with the public and offer excellent customer service, but also have a robust plan for their business now and into the future.  In order to showcase the diversity of quality high street businesses across the town, Destination Chesterfield may decide to limit the number of categories in which a business can be selected as a finalist.

Please see the category page for information on eligibility for each individual category.
