What is Made in Chesterfield?

Made in Chesterfield celebrates the science, technology, engineering, manufacturing and construction industries and careers in our town.

Our town has a rich history of innovation and creativity. For instance, did you know that Chesterfield engineers played a crucial role in creating the rail link beneath the English Channel? Or that the cucumber straightener was invented here? Today, manufacturing makes up 8% of the town’s businesses. So, Made in Chesterfield aims to inspire the next generation to enter the sector. This also helps businesses build a strong pipeline of talent. Furthermore, schools, training providers, and businesses come together to showcase the industry.

What happens at Made in Chesterfield?

A key part of the initiative is school tours. Students have the chance to not only learn about but also see what working in these sectors is like. Experiencing the workplace, hearing from employees, and understanding the roles available will help encourage students to consider their future career paths. 16 schools have participated since the campaign began. 24 businesses have also supported hundreds of students across the local area.

Sponsored by The Chesterfield College Group, the campaign returns this October with hands-on business visits and more. Additionally, young people can access a range of career videos and virtual tours of local businesses, offering them the same tours, activities, and career information they would receive in person.

Thank you to all the businesses, schools, and partners who support this amazing initiative. Destination Chesterfield and Direct Education Business Partnership coordinate this campaign. It is delivered in association with the Chesterfield College Group and supported by Chesterfield Borough Council, EMCCA Careers Hub, MSE Hiller, United Cast Bar Ltd and Natwest.
