Active Derbyshire
Active Derbyshire is one of 44 Active Partnerships covering England. working with partners across Derbyshire with a shared vision. The organisation addresses inequality and empowers people to be active in a way that works for them.
Its partners include all local authorities within Derbyshire, including Chesterfield Borough Council. It also works closely with many partners across the voluntary sector and other statutory bodies.
In October 2021 Active Derbyshire launched Making our Move, setting out a vision of working together as well as listening to people and communities to take local action and create lasting change.
Informed by local data and insight, its shared aims are:
- Creating a culture where everyone can be active and move more
- Enabling children and young people to have positive experiences of being active throughout their childhood
- Working with people and communities who experience the greatest inequality
- Maximising the potential of physical activity being active to improve physical and mental health
- Creating accessible, safe, and inclusive places and environments for physical activity
Two themes cross through all of the aims – the potential of walking in a way that’s accessible to everyone alongside reducing our carbon footprint and impact on the environment.
The charity offers support to organisations that engage with those less likely to be active. This is through funding and insight alongside building strong relationships.
Many of the team live in Chesterfield and the surrounding areas. Active Derbyshire focuses on all districts in Derbyshire, so Chesterfield provides a great central point for their work. The team find Chesterfield is a great place to base many of their events due to its central location and easy access to the M1, with events regularly held at venues such as the Winding Wheel and the Technique Stadium.
James Cook, Strategic Lead for Chesterfield at Active Derbyshire, comments:-
“Chesterfield is a great place to live, work, and be active, offering a fantastic range of leisure facilities, parks and green spaces.”
