Junction Arts
Junction Arts is an award-winning participatory arts charity based in Chesterfield. Established in 1976 the charity’s mission is to develop and deliver engaging arts experiences within disadvantaged areas, improve wellbeing, build confidence, develop skills, address inequality and inspire change.
Junction Arts is probably best known locally for its free festivals and events. This includes the Tapton Lock Festival, which has been a much-loved event in the town for over a decade. The charity also launched the Bolsover Lantern Parade 30 years ago, which has grown year-on-year to become one of the UK’s biggest and longest-running light processions! More recently, it staged the Chesterfield Children’s Festival, attracting over 8,000 people to flock to Queen’s Park for the arts and culture event that included a silent disco, live theatre, comedy, music and games.
Junction Arts also delivers projects in communities to help people of all ages from tackling isolation and loneliness to helping young people pursue creative careers – its projects have a lasting social and personal impact.
Emily Bowman, Managing Director of Junction Arts, says: “We are passionate about the impact that participation in the arts can have on individuals and communities. We are also passionate about Chesterfield. Having worked in and around Chesterfield for almost 50 years we know how creative the community is. We are incredibly optimistic about the future of Chesterfield. We’re excited to play a part in the development and growth of the creative ecology of the town and showcase the artistry of the people and places that make Chesterfield so special.”
