The Elm Foundation
The Elm Foundation was established almost 40 years ago as North Derbyshire Women’s Aid. Since then, it has grown to become one of the biggest providers of domestic abuse support services in the East Midlands. Unfortunately, domestic abuse remains one of the most prevalent yet hidden crimes in society. The Elm Foundation provides a lifeline of support for any residents of Chesterfield and the surrounding area living with abuse.
The Elm Foundation is a specialist, Safe Lives accredited Charity based in Chesterfield. It adopts a needs-led, trauma-informed approach and the work is based on prevention, crisis, and recovery. Providing an end-to-end service for victims and survivors of domestic abuse from refuge and emergency accommodation to community outreach, children and young people’s support, counselling, and training. They also run and manage the Derbyshire Domestic Abuse Helpline, which is the single point of access for domestic abuse support services throughout Derbyshire.
The Elm Foundation supports all victims and their children, irrespective of a person’s age, sex, ethnicity, disability, gender identity or immigration status, covering the areas of Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Bolsover, and parts of Amber Valley.
A key part of the team’s work is to campaign about and raise awareness of domestic abuse. They believe it is vital to make it possible for victims to be able to speak out and seek help. Training has become an important part of their work and they are proud to be a CPD-accredited training provider. Offering a range of training courses on domestic abuse topics and recently developing workplace training to support businesses to be better equipped to support and respond to victims in the workplace.
