The Tickled Trout
Award-winningrestaurant The Tickled Trout is proudly independent… owned by Chef Chris Mapp and nestled in the idyllic Derbyshire village of Barlow.
Chris exudes a passion for food and his pedigree as a chef is impeccable. He trained under Marcus Wareing at the 2 Michelin Star Pétrus restaurant in London, serving modern French cuisine, and then worked at the Michelin star Greenhouse restaurant in Mayfair. More latterly, he managed the famous No.6 restaurant in Padstow in partnership with Paul Ainsworth.
On his return to Derbyshire Chris couldn’t believe his luck when his old local came up for sale, and worked tirelessly to transform the run-down country drinking hole into a stunning dining pub. Wanting to get away from ‘fine dining’ Chris has created a relaxed atmosphere, complemented by a warm, hospitable and homelike ambience. The food ethos is ‘Deliciously Derbyshire’ wherever possible the ingredients are sourced locally. The pub serves great local ales which change on a weekly basis.
Fish is popular on the menu and the ‘Day boat fish’ is delivered from Chris’s friend Johnny Godden in Cornwall, so the fish changes to whatever is the ‘catch of the day’.
A superbly-decorated upstairs private dining area seats up to 30 and is ideal for corporate events, birthdays, anniversaries, wedding breakfasts and other special occasions.
The Tickled Trout is completely different to anywhere else in Chesterfield, the food according to Chris is “very well executed comfort food”.
Returning back to Chesterfield and being passionate about sourcing as much as he can locally he wants it to be the place people in Chesterfield come back to time and time again!
Head Chef, Chris Mapp says: “I feel that Chesterfield Champions is a brilliant idea to help small businesses come together and help each other.
