West Studios
West Studios was launched in August 2014 as a creative project of Chesterfield College that was funded by the European Regional Development Fund. It has since developed into a busy hub for Chesterfield’s creative community and is home to 15 local businesses, artists, charities and start-ups within 4 shared studios and 2 private studios.
Based in the old boys Grammar School on Sheffield Road, West Studios has 3 meeting and event spaces as well as a refreshment area, handmade shop and gallery that is open to the public Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm. West Studios connection to Chesterfield College also enables them to hire out specialist areas within the college to local businesses, such as the newly refurbished Theatre Studio, which is perfect for small performances and conferences.
Throughout the year West Studios has developed a range of artist workshops, events, and exhibitions including an annual Open Exhibition which shows the immense artistic talent we have in Chesterfield and the surrounding areas. The West Studios team and tenants have created a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere within the beautiful building that sees a lot of customers and clients return year after year.
Joby Parsons, Coordinator at West Studios, says: “West Studios was originally set up to help nurture and support Chesterfield creative start-up businesses and help them grow. Over the past 7 years we have worked with numerous artists and businesses through various support programmes and the services we offer. Additionally, we have been able to connect people together that has enabled working partnerships to develop.”
“Moving forward we aim to have a useable and beneficial space for both the local creative industries and Chesterfield College and open further communications between the two.”
