Chesterfield event technology firm shortlisted for two prestigious awards

Chesterfield-based engagement specialist Noonah has been announced as a finalist in two upcoming awards ceremonies.

The company is shortlisted at both this year’s Campaign Tech Awards 2022 ‘Tech as part of a Campaign: Retail’ and Conference & Events Awards 2022 ‘Best Event Technology’ for its work with Hasbro.

The entry highlights the work Noonah carried out in giving two of Hasbro’s most famous names, Cluedo and Monopoly, relevance in an ever-competitive retail landscape.

To maximise reach and accessibility, the firm staged a two-part campaign, taking the ‘Cluedo Family Edition‘ on a tour visiting Smyths Toys’ most popular Superstores, and basing the ‘Monopoly by You‘ pop-up in London’s prestigious Selfridges department store.

Central to both activations was Noonah’s powerful Personalize product personalisation technology, combining market-leading customisation software with state-of-the-art live-printing tech, all housed in eye-catching installations to maximise visibility and brand engagement.

Alice Morton, Account Manager at Noonah commented: “We are incredibly proud of our work with Hasbro and the team involved with this project. A huge congrats and good luck to all others nominated!”

The campaign incentivised customers, old and new, to engage with these classic titles, and strengthened the emotional connections with their brands, achieving immense reach and significant brand exposure on the run-up to Christmas.

With retail suffering from the impact of COVID-19 and losing ever more sales to e-commerce, this campaign was a powerful reminder of what the high street can be if it embraces the latest and best experiential tech.

The Campaign Tech Awards celebrates the companies that represent the industry’s trailblazing thinkers, imaginative clients, and cutting-edge technology. Championing the collaboration between agencies, brands, and the technology communities, recognising the outstanding work produced together to drive the creative industries forward. Noonah’s entry has been shortlisted in the highly competitive category and will go up against agencies from the likes of MediaCom’s campaign with Ellesse and UNIT9’s work with Southampton F.C.

The awards ceremony will take place on 8th June 2022 in London. The lunch will showcase some of the most outstanding achievements of the industry over the past 18 months and truly display how the industry stood resilient and pushed through during a very difficult time.

The good news continues as Noonah’s work has also been shortlisted for Conference & Events Awards 2022. This awards ceremony is GCN Events’ longest-standing and flagship event and is the pinnacle of event industry recognition. After an outstanding virtual event in 2020, Conference & Events Awards 2022 sees an eagerly awaited return on 1st July, attracting an audience of over 600 conference and venue professionals.

Director of Chesterfield hot tub company shortlisted for prestigious entrepreneur award

Rob Carlin, Managing Director at Superior Wellness, has been recognised as an inspiring and influential entrepreneur by organisers of the Great British Business Awards 2022.

Superior Wellness leads the market as the world’s fastest growing hot tub manufacturer, creating premium, high quality products focused on improving your health and well-being.

Managing Director of the award-winning, Chesterfield-based hot tub company, Rob Carlin (34), has recently been shortlisted for a prestigious entrepreneur award at the 2022 Great British Business & Community awards.

This recognition comes at a time where Superior Wellness is experiencing a monumental level of growth. The company has recently doubled in headcount, relocated headquarters and opened an impressive 10,000 sq. ft training facility and hot tub showroom in Chesterfield.

The Superior Wellness journey began in 2011. At the age of 23, Rob decided he wanted to import and sell hot tubs. Having zero knowledge of the hot tub industry he researched the products and discovered a gap in the market for entry level products to be retailed online.

Fast forward 10 years and Superior Wellness are now the fastest-growing hot tub and swim spa distributor in the world, with a strong presence in the UK, Europe and now America too.

The organisers of this year’s Great British Business & Community awards ceremony received over 1600 nominations and 92 entries in the Male Entrepreneur of the Year category alone.

Rob Carlin, Managing Director, said: “I am incredibly grateful that the team nominated me for this prestigious award. To have been shortlisted alongside many other influential and inspiring leaders is something I feel very humbled by.

“I am very proud of everything we have achieved at Superior Wellness. Not only am I lucky to have such a supportive team, but also an incredibly supportive partner network too. This recognition is an accolade to all those who have supported and continue to support the Superior Wellness journey.

“I look forward to seeing the results on the 7 April and would like to extend my congratulations and well wishes to all the other deserving shortlisted nominees.”

Award winners for the categories will be announced on 7 April 2022. It is expected that over 350 business people will attend the awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, Reading.

Chesterfield firms named amongst region’s best businesses by East Midlands Chamber

A number of Chesterfield Champions were recognised with awards at the Derbyshire Business Awards recently.

UK Asbestos Training Association, Dronfield Heritage Trust, Peak Indicators and Fortem Solutions all scooped awards at the prestigious ceremony last week.

The Awards, held in partnership with headline sponsor Mazars, recognised winners across 13 categories, ranging from Business Improvement Through Technology and Environmental Impact Award within an organisation to individual honours for Entrepreneur of the Year and Apprentice of the Year. There were new categories this year for Collaboration Project of the Year and Excellence in Innovation.

Finalists, chosen by a judging panel of the Chamber’s senior leadership and board of directors, as well as sponsors, discovered their fate during a gala dinner attended by 350 people at Derbyshire County Cricket Club – marking a return for face-to-face celebrations after being held virtually last year.

Scott Knowles, chief executive of East Midlands Chamber, said: “There has been so much to celebrate within our business community despite a challenging 18 months and these awards have showcased some of the incredible companies that call our region home.

“As the economic recovery continues, and new opportunities present themselves in a new era of global trade and sustainable business, these are just the kinds of organisations we should be highlighting when we’re shouting about everything the East Midlands has to offer. We know it’s a great place to do business and these are living proof.

“We received so many high-calibre applications, which demonstrated how the pandemic hasn’t been a period in which we have just stood still. Instead, the time afforded for reflection has led to many companies seeking out new opportunities, innovating and driving themselves forward.

“While last year offered us a different kind of experience in a virtual awards ceremony, it was great to be back holding such a landmark event for the Derbyshire business calendar in person once more. Once again, we are so thankful to our sponsors for making this event so successful.”

The Derbyshire Business Awards – one of three awards hosted by the Chamber, with others in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire to follow – were hosted by British-Gambian broadcast journalist Haddy Ndure and featured entertainment by Turner and McHugh, a female duo who joined forces after featuring on BBC singing competition The Voice.

A raffle was held to raise funds for East Midlands Chamber president Eileen Richards MBE’s three chosen charities this year – Chesterfield Samaritans, Help the Homeless Leicester and Nottinghamshire Hospice.

Commenting on the awards, Eileen added: “During my year as president, I’ve been privileged to witness some of the amazing success stories that don’t always receive the wider recognition they ought to, so I’m thrilled to see some of these come to the fore at the Chamber’s Business Awards.

“The Derbyshire Business Awards has shone the spotlight on some well-deserving winners but I’d also like to congratulate the finalists for their outstanding entries too as we had some really strong competition across many categories this year.

“SureScreen Diagnostics is a very worthy winner of the Derbyshire Business of the Year and I’ve been in awe of the growth it has experienced over the past 18 months while also playing a pivotal role in the fight against Covid-19 both in the UK and overseas.”

Robinson wins ‘Best Custom Packaging Solutions Provider’

Robinson – the Chesterfield manufacturer specialising in value-added custom packaging – has been named ‘Best Custom Packaging Solutions Provider’ at the 2021 Midlands Enterprise Awards.

Now running for four consecutive years, the Midlands Enterprise programme is created to acknowledge and award those SMEs of all different sizes covering a range of businesses and industries that are based within the Midlands. The region is often described as the beating heart of the British industry and is a strong force in opening new avenues and business opportunities to most SMEs.

Dr Helene Roberts, CEO at Robinson, says: “We are thrilled to be named Best Custom Packaging Solutions Provider. With nearly 200 years within the industry, we have a wealth of knowledge and expertise to provide our customers with customised solutions that meet their packaging needs.

Roberts continues: “Being an independent business, it gives us the advantage of being highly adaptive and flexible, our in-house team can help develop sustainable packaging formats, introduce innovative features and designs, or refine functionality, to make sure our customers meet their goals.”

The awards are given solely on merit and are awarded to commend those most deserving for their ingenuity and hard work, distinguishing them from their competitors and proving them worthy of recognition.

Awards Coordinator Dean Taylor commented: “I am incredibly proud of all of the winners this year and would like to congratulate them on achieving so much. It has been a pleasure managing this programme and I wish all the winners the best of luck for their future endeavours!”

Headquartered in Chesterfield, UK, Robinson has three plants in the UK, two in Poland and recently acquired a plant in Denmark, Schela Plast. The firm was formerly a family business with its origins dating back to 1839, currently employing nearly 400 people.

Robinson supports the marketing and economic growth of the town through Chesterfield Champions, a network of over 190 organisations across Chesterfield and North Derbyshire.

Enterprising Women Awards 2021: Winners announced at East Midlands Chamber gala

Apprentices, entrepreneurs and STEM ambassadors were among those recognised at East Midlands Chamber’s Enterprising Women Awards.

Eight women in business took home honours at the gala dinner on Friday (8 October), which was held at Nottingham Belfry in partnership with headline sponsor Futures Housing Group.

The evening was topped off by the Business Woman of the Year title, which was awarded to Colleague Box managing director Natalie Bamford.

She founded the Derby-based personalised gift box service alongside husband Adam during the first Covid-19 lockdown in April 2020. At the time, she was on furlough as a technology company’s expedite services assistant and came up with the idea of posting the boxes to home-based colleagues in order to “spread a bit of happiness and positivity” while the country was engulfed by “doom and gloom”.

The couple have already grown it into a £1m turnover business as corporations have identified the benefits of being able to send low-cost, high-quality gift boxes – which can be personalised or themed to feature everything from prosecco and coffee to chocolate and candles – that can be sent to staff en masse.

Asked what she liked best about the business after picking up the award, Natalie said: “We get to spread positivity and happiness, so that initial aim of when we first started Colleague Box is what still excites us today.”

Enterprising Women Awards gala dinner returns after 18 months

This was the first time the Enterprising Women Awards had been held since early March 2020, just before lockdown.

It is the biggest event in the calendar for East Midlands Chamber’s Enterprising Women network, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year.

Chamber president Eileen Richards MBE, who co-chairs the network with Jean Mountain, said: “It was wonderful to be able to celebrate the Enterprising Women Awards in person and welcome back all our members and supporters. You could physically feel the enthusiasm and emotion within the room, which demonstrates just how much these awards mean to individuals.

“We have so many unbelievable women working at all levels of businesses across the East Midlands – from CEOs to managers to apprentices – and it is incredible to see them recognised.”

Jean, a past president of the Chamber, added: “Our Enterprising Women network has gone from strength to strength, and this evening is always the crowning event in our calendar so it was brilliant to see everyone again.

“Congratulations to all our winners and finalists, who thoroughly deserve the opportunity to have their stories told to the region. We can’t wait to be back next year and have some exciting plans to mark our 25th anniversary.”

The 300 guests collectively donated £1,270 to the Chamber’s three chosen charities this year – Chesterfield Samaritans, Help the Homeless Leicester and Nottinghamshire Hospice.

ITV weather presenter Emma Jesson hosted the black-tie event, with entertainment provided by Michael Bublé tribute act Mike All Bublé.

In recognition of the exceptional work undertaken by the sector during the Covid-19 pandemic, two new core categories have been added for the 2022 awards: the Unsung Hero Award and the Resilience and Innovation Award.

Two new local categories – Team of the Year and Tourism Young Achiever – have also been introduced to celebrate the thousands of people employed by the tourism industry in the Peak District and Derbyshire.

The Peak District & Derbyshire Tourism Awards are run by Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire with support from the European Regional Development Fund and C W Sellors Fine Jewellery & Luxury Watches, who will be designing and handcrafting luxury bespoke awards for all Gold winners.

Jo Dilley, Managing Director of Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire, said: “After a difficult year for the industry, the Peak District & Derbyshire Tourism Awards offer a timely opportunity to recognise the area’s many innovative and resilient tourism businesses, and the passionate people behind them.

“These awards are a celebration of the tourism sector and the huge contribution it makes to the Peak District & Derbyshire’s economy. They are also a fantastic chance for businesses to recognise the hard work of their teams, and entering these local awards is the only way to qualify for the national VisitEngland awards. We urge everyone to get their applications in as soon as possible!”

The Peak District & Derbyshire Tourism Awards are free to enter for current members of Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire. Non-members can enter at a fee of £150 plus VAT per category. Entrants must be based in Derbyshire or within the Peak District National Park boundary, and must be part of the visitor economy.

Juniper Training scoops accolade at The Inspire Awards 2021

Juniper Training has added another award to its collection, after the company’s Building Futures Roofing training programme, run jointly with SPV Group won the Most Inspiring Training Programme at The Inspire Awards 2021.

The event, which took place virtually on Thursday 8th July Celebrated Diversity & Inclusion in UK Construction, Engineering & Housing.

The two companies became partners back in 2019 designing a programme to offer young people the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in the roofing industry with progression onto a Level 2 Roofer Apprenticeship and sustained employment with local roofing companies.

The judges praised the programme, saying it was “Truly inspiring, a practical determined approach to overcoming barriers and generating value all round,” and “A great example of collaboration in the industry.”

Samantha Broomhall, Head of Business Development at Juniper Training, said: Well done to the staff, students, employers and partners who work incredibly hard day in, day out to make this provision a success – ultimately changing the lives of young people.”

The 30 week training programme offers young people a Level 1 certificate in construction, upskilling in maths and English if needed and necessary training such as asbestos awareness and working at height.

They also learn the various disciplines in roofing and sit the CSCS test prior to being taken on as an apprentice with one of the many roofing contractors Juniper is currently working with. These include SPV Group, Rydale Roofing, RS Miller, Dudley MBC, Rio Asphalt, Stoneleigh Services and Central Roofing.

Lisa Jenkins commented: “”We’re really looking forward to expanding our provision of this training activity in Chesterfield and Derbyshire, and we’re currently interested in hearing from any roofing contractors that might be interested in partering with us.”

“If you are a roofing employer and would be interested in partnering with us to offer this opportunity for young people to get on to the roofing ladder, contact lisa.jenkins@junipertraining.co.uk or call 07923 209239.”
