3K and 5K races added to Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K weekend

runners set off for 10k race in Queens Park

The Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K is expanding its lineup with the introduction of two shorter races – a 3K and 5K – on May 10, 2025, ahead of the main 10K event on May 11. Sponsored by plant-based nutrition company Nuzest, the new races aim to make the event more accessible to runners of all abilities.

Adrian Beckett, CEO at Nuzest, said: “We are thrilled to return as a partner for this wonderful event, and especially excited to be sponsoring the new 3K and 5K events this year. Our company was founded on the principle of helping others lead healthier lives, and we see the Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield races as an excellent opportunity to support that mission in the community.”

John Timms, Event Director at MLS Contracts, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing more opportunities for people to get involved in our race weekend. The addition of the 3K and 5K events mean that runners of all abilities and experience levels can be part of this special weekend.

“It’s also great to have Nuzest join us again this year as a sponsor for what looks like will be our biggest event to date. I look forward to seeing everyone on both the Saturday and the Sunday at the start line.”

The event will raise funds for local charities, including Ashgate Hospice, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, and Cavendish Cancer Care.

Chesterfield schoolchildren help create public art

School pupils with teacher outdoors holding up cardboard artworks

Children from Bramley Vale Primary School have teamed up with artist Rob Neith-Nicholson to create a new piece of public art that will be unveiled this spring at the entrance of the Earl’s Park housing development in Holmewood.

Commissioned by Junction Arts for Avant Homes, the artwork aims to celebrate local identity and mining heritage. The students, aged from years one to six, explored their local environment, foraging for natural materials and using recycled cardboard to craft sculptures that reflect Chesterfield’s rich industrial past and its transformation into green spaces.

Artist Rob Neith-Nicholson said: “It’s been a pleasure working with the children at Bramley Vale. We designed the sessions not only so that they could be a vital part of our design process for the final piece, making the work a real part of the community, but also so that they themselves gained great value from being involved. I think the sessions were a great success on both counts.”

Junction Arts Project Coordinator, Nathan Hamer added: “Public art is important because it’s accessible to everyone, you don’t have to visit a gallery or museum to enjoy it – it’s simply there. We were delighted to be part of this project, bringing a professional artist together with the community to create a meaningful piece of art that we hope will give a sense of belonging to new residents and be enjoyed by many generations to come.”

Jenny Etchells from Bramley Vale Primary School commented: “Thank you so much for giving Bramley Vale pupils the opportunity to take part in such an interesting project. The children gained a lot from trying something new creatively. The children enjoyed the sessions; some of them even said they were planning to make another relief sculpture at home!”

The final piece, a wooden sculpture celebrating the area’s history while looking toward the future, will be a lasting symbol of connection and pride.

Mud run fundraiser for High Ashes Rural Project

Chesterfield Champion Dominic Wish is calling for runners and volunteers to take part in the High Ashes Rural Project Mud Run on April 6.

The 5K muddy challenge raises funds for local charities and supports High Ashes’ work with individuals with learning difficulties.

Phil Coates runs High Ashes Rural Project with his wife Vanessa. He commented: “We have been running the mud run for 9 years now and whilst it is a great event for us at High Ashes, we are very keen for groups of people to obtain sponsorship for their own local charities, like Ashgate Hospice or Aquabox.  We can therefore all enjoy the day together making wonderful memories and helping out some really great causes at the same time. Our next event is on Sunday 6th April , there are still a few places left.”

Dominic Wish, of HMX UK Ltd, said: “I have known Phil for many years through his volunteer efforts in Chesterfield Rotary and the fabulous work he does running the High Ashes Rural Project (HARP). I have met many of the people with learning difficulties who are enjoying their time at High Ashes Farm.

“To see these vibrant and happy people relaxed and learning new skills in a rural environment; mostly outdoors working with animals, growing vegetables, rebuilding a dry-stone wall, or just enjoying a cup of tea in front of the log burner is an absolute joy.  I am proud to be helping Phil, and his fabulous team, organise the Mud Run this year.”

Chesterfield Children’s Festival to feature ‘Everybody Dance’

Chesterfield Childrens Festival 1746

Year six students at Spire Junior School are taking the lead in choreographing Chesterfield’s biggest dance routine for the Chesterfield Children’s Festival this summer. Under the guidance of professional dancers Karla Jones and Jack Stephenson, the students have been exploring different dance styles and creating original moves for Everybody Dance, a mass dance-along event in Queen’s Park on July 26.

Jemma Burton, Project Manager at Junction Arts, explained: “Everybody Dance was a big success last year, we had children, parents and grandparents joining in, it was such a feel-good activity that we wanted to do it again! This year, we have invited young people to co-create the dance with us, developing the moves and having a say in how the dance comes together.

“Dancing together makes people feel good, and we want to bring that to the festival, giving people the opportunity to be part of something big!”

The Chesterfield Children’s Festival, held on July 26-27, will be a free event featuring music, theatre, art workshops, and games for families to enjoy.

Chesterfield photographer donates artwork to new NHS centre

Bluebell Woods image for Walton Hospital, Scott Antcliffe photography

Local photographer Scott Antcliffe has generously donated one of his landscape photographs, Bluebell Woods, to Walton Hospital’s Community Diagnostic Centre, opening in summer 2025.

Chosen by the public through a voting process, the image will be displayed in the reception area to provide comfort to patients and visitors.

Dr Hal Spencer, Chief Executive at Chesterfield Royal Hospital said: “We offer our huge appreciation and thanks to Scott for donating his wonderful photograph, which was chosen by our local community and colleagues.

“The Community Diagnostic Centre is going to be a wonderful purpose-built facility that will see thousands of visitors and patients each year. Knowing that we will have a welcoming and calming image in our main reception area will make a real difference to our patients’ experiences whilst they wait for important tests and results. Thank you.”

Scott, who has a personal connection to the NHS, hopes his work will create a calming environment: “I have lots of thanks to share to everyone in the NHS for everything they do. The NHS has always got a place in my heart, and I think we are incredibly lucky to have it.

“If I can give back to my local community and the NHS for all the amazing work they do, then that is such a nice feeling. You are all amazing at what you do, and it is such an honour to donate this image.”

Supporting future careers: apprenticeship & technical education event

Sparks flying as manufacturer uses angle grinder on metal weighbridge

Young people in Chesterfield are being given valuable career guidance following the success of the Apprenticeship and Technical Education Event in Hasland. The event, which took place in February, provided aspiring professionals with direct access to industry experts in construction, healthcare, engineering, and manufacturing.

Focusing on careers in construction, engineering and manufacturing and health and social care, businesses in attendance included Frank Shaw Associates, Chesterfield Royal Hospital, Eyesite View, DANCOP, Nottingham Trent University, Joined Up Careers and United Cast Bar as well as Chesterfield College who offer a variety of courses to get young people workplace ready.

Chesterfield College work closely with employers to do a ‘skills scan’ of potential apprentices to determine current knowledge and experience to understand which course will be best for them. They found that Tom who joined MSE Hiller last year, would be best suited to the Level 3 Mechanical Engineering course as he had already completed a year at university in a different subject.

Tom explained: “I attended this event after deciding that I wanted to reskill into the engineering industry where I could learn new skills and find a career that brought me personal fulfilment. I have been working with the company for six months now and I am enjoying the role. The work is challenging but due to the advice and support from my colleagues, mentors and management, I am encouraged to expand my skill set and become more confident in my role”.

Councillor Tricia Gilby, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, said: “Apprenticeships allow young people to grow in their chosen career, whilst working alongside industry experts. They are a good starting point for anyone who wants to learn skills ‘on the job’ that will build on their academic knowledge. These opportunities are also great ways for us to help to build our future workforce and grow our local economy.

“There is another event planned in May this year, so I would encourage young people and their families to join us to find out more about what opportunities are available locally.”

Councillor Paul Hezelgrave, Portfolio Lead for Skills & Employment at East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), said: “The EMCCA Careers Hub are delighted to fund another successful Apprenticeship and Technical Education event, with a new location in Hasland. It is important for these events to be accessible by all members of the local community, and to create an environment where parents/carers and young people can learn about vocational pathways and ask the questions that are important to them, in order to make informed decisions about their next steps.

“I’d like to thank Chesterfield Borough Council for coordinating this latest event, and to the wide range of employers and education providers who shared their knowledge and experience with the attendees.

“There’s clear evidence that when parents/carers work with schools to support their children’s exploration of their place in the world of work, that outcomes are far better for our young people, with higher aims and motivation for their learning across the curriculum.”

A second event is scheduled for May 21 at Chesterfield Football Club, offering another opportunity for students and job seekers to explore vocational pathways.

Chesterfield Postcard Show returns to support Cosy Crafts project

postcard show web

Artists of all abilities are invited to submit postcard-sized artwork for the Chesterfield Postcard Show, which returns for its fourth year from May 6-16 at West Studios. This year’s theme, Home, will raise funds for Cosy Crafts, a community art project supporting residents during the cost-of-living crisis.

Last year’s event featured nearly 500 original pieces, and organisers hope for even greater participation this year. Submissions are open until April 24, with all artwork sold for £10 each to support the expansion of Cosy Crafts.

Hannah Bowdler, Fundraising Coordinator at Junction Arts said: “The Chesterfield Postcard Show is back and this year we want more people to get involved to help us raise money for a very worthwhile cause.

“This year, funds raised will specifically help expand our Cosy Crafts project, which currently has a waiting list, by establishing a second regular session. This will provide more people with access to a safe and creative community space in Chesterfield.

“The brilliant thing about the postcard show is that it allows artists of all levels to see their work in a professional exhibition, it also gives art lovers the chance to buy original art for the bargain price of £10!   It’s open to people of all ages and abilities and every postcard that is sent to us will feature in the exhibition. Your postcard could be a painting, a photograph or digital artwork, you can use whatever material you like, as long as it’s A6 size and is based on the theme of home.”

Hospital Trust Chair and Destination Chesterfield Board Member to abseil down Chesterfield Town Hall for charity

Chesterfield Town Hall

On Sunday (23 March), Chesterfield Town Hall will witness an extraordinary sight. Chair of the Chesterfield Royal Hospital Trust, Mahmud Nawaz, along with two ‘willing’ helpers on behalf of the trust’s Charity, will be abseiling down its iconic façade.

The daring act aims to raise funds for the Chesterfield Royal Hospital Trust Charity, Rural Action Derbyshire – Feeding Chesterfield and the Derbyshire Law Centre – the three charities proudly chosen as the 2024/25 Mayor’s Charity of the Year.

When asked about the challenge, Mahmud quipped: “I’ve faced some tough meetings in my time, but nothing quite prepares you for dangling off the side of a building. It’s all for a fantastic cause, though, so bring it on!”

The Chesterfield Royal Hospital Trust Charity supports vital projects that enhance patient care and staff wellbeing. By taking on this feat, Mahmud and the charity reps – Karen Johnson and Destination Chesterfield Board Member, Karlie Thompson – aim to inspire everyone to contribute to this worthy cause.

Mahmud added: “We wanted to raise funds for all three charities but more than that, we’re key players in the local community and we’re excited to be engaging in such a fun and joyful event at one of our most iconic buildings. I’d like to thank the Mayor and Mayoress – I think!! – for this opportunity!! Let’s raise some vital funds for three great charities! I’d urge everybody to give anything they may be able to – the difference made is huge for organisations like ours – where our charity provides equipment, training and opportunities which the NHS budget cannot stretch to.”

You can support the team’s efforts by donating to their cause here.

The Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K has announced the return of its charity partners and sponsors for its 2025 event.

Scheduled for May 11th at Queen’s Park, this annual running event continues to unite the community while supporting local charities and promoting wellbeing.

The returning charity partners include the Redbrik Foundation as title sponsor, alongside Ashgate Hospice, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, and Cavendish Cancer Care. The event also welcomes back Pronto Paints as a sponsor of the Fun Run and Wellbeing Challenge, alongside other returning sponsors Nuzest, Chapter II, North Derbyshire Running Club, and Chesterfield Borough Council.

Established in 2020, the Redbrik Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of people and communities across South Yorkshire and Northeast Derbyshire. The charity mainly focuses on children, young people, the elderly, and those with disabilities.

Ashgate Hospice delivers essential palliative and end-of-life care services for adults across North Derbyshire. Their involvement in the 10K helps fund their comprehensive range of services, from specialist nursing care to bereavement support.

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, another returning charity partner, provides crucial support to families facing the heartbreaking reality of a child with a shortened life expectancy. Funding helps them continue offering services such as respite care, music therapy, and end-of-life care, all provided free of charge to families in need.

Cavendish Cancer Care supports individuals and families affected by cancer through a holistic approach to care. Their partnership with the event helps fund their range of services, including counselling, complementary therapies, and specialized support for children and young people, both online and at their dedicated Tim Pryor Centre.

Now in its fourth year, the Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K will showcase Chesterfield’s landmarks, including the famous Crooked Spire, and will feature service and cheer stations along the route. Since 2017, more than £250,000 has been raised for various charities and good causes by the 10K races Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield Half Marathon.

John Timms, Event Director at MLS Contracts, said: “We are thrilled to welcome back all of our dedicated charity partners as well corporate sponsors from last year’s successful event. More than 1,000 runners take part in Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K

The Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K has been hailed a great success by organisers, with more than 1,000 runners taking part.

The event returned to Queen’s Park on Sunday 24th March for the first time since the event was moved to March from its previous October date.

Philip Nind was the first to cross the 10k finish line with a time of 00:35:36, with Hayley Gill the first female to finish in a new course record time of 00:37:30 beating her old course record time by over 10 seconds.

The oldest participant in the event was Dave Onion aged 83, and Jayden Peace was the youngest at 15.

Harry Hewitt and Molly Bayliss were the first boy and girl across the line in the Veezu Fun Run, which returned for another year and took place within the boundaries of Queen’s Park in tandem with the main event.

14 organisations also took part in the Pronto Paints Wellbeing Challenge, a team entry into the Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K’s weekend of events.

This year’s event saw the inaugural Nuzest Chesterfield 5K Challenge take place on Saturday 23 March. Situated within the boundaries of Queen’s Park, the winner of the event was Louie Jenkinson. Charlie Parker aged just 8 completed the Challenge also.

The event also helped raise thousands of pounds for good causes, with an estimated circa £30K pledged for charities selected by the runners from across the region including the 10K’s charity partners – Redbrik Foundation, Ashgate Hospice, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and Cavendish Cancer Care.

Following the event, John Timms, Event Director of the Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K said: “Following a brief hiatus, it’s been fantastic to see the return of the Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10k to Queen’s Park.

“Ever since we first launched the event in 2020, our goal has always been to create a fantastic experience for participants that benefited the local community and generate much-needed funds for our partner charities. The people of Chesterfield really turned out, there were so many people who turned out to cheer on the runners all around the race route which was amazing.

“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped ensure that the event came together, including our event partners, sponsors and of course the runners who took on the course on the day.

“I also want to say a huge thank you to all the volunteer marshals who gave up their free time on a Sunday morning to assist the runners, help the public and keep everything running smoothly.

“The patience from the people of Chesterfield who are most affected by the road disruptions is greatly appreciated and we thank them for their understanding throughout the day.

“The money raised by this event will help good causes like the Redbrik Foundation, Ashgate Hospice, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Cavendish Cancer Care, and other charities to continue their fantastic work in the local community.”

David Cooper, Trustee of headline sponsor the Redbrik Foundation said: “It’s been yet another fantastic Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K.

“Every year it’s such a great atmosphere with spectators lining the streets of the town centre and beautiful Queen’s Park showing their support for all the runners.

“It’s important to have events such as the Chesterfield 10K and everyone at Redbrik are more than happy to support. As a business with a significant presence in the town, it’s great to help showcase the town as people come from all parts of the country to support, contribute or take part.”

Chesterfield Football Club plays host to inspirational Women’s Day event

Banner Jones International Women's Day event

More than 60 businesswomen from across South Sheffield and Derbyshire came together last week at Chesterfield Football Club to mark this year’s International Women’s Day.

The inspirational event was hosted by MMB Magazine and sponsored by regional law firm Banner Jones, with the proceedings led by event host Natalie Jackson who is a former lawyer and Director at See Sporty Be Sporty.

Natalie is actively encouraging girls to participate in sports, creating partnerships helping businesses to support local young people working with the Outward Bound Trust.

The first speaker at the event, which took place on February 29th, was World Thai Boxing Champion and UK Boxing Champion Rachael Mackenzie who shared her journey to success. And what a journey it was!

The inspirational evening consisted of networking opportunities, and a chance to celebrate the achievements of women in the local community. Half of the funds raised were also donated to support Chesterfield FC Women, supporting their journey in securing funds for pitch hire, referees, kit, training, and other essential needs.

A number of other inspirational women were invited to share their experiences, including top female football referee Georgia Ball, founder of Colleague Box Natalie Bamford, the first female shareholding management board member of Banner Jones, Katie Ash, and Business Expansion and Inward Investment Specialist Nicolle Ndiweni.

Katie Ash, panel speaker and event sponsor commented: “We were delighted to sponsor this event focussed on celebrating the achievements of women and inspiring the next generation of women in business.

“Women have been forcing change and we are seeing the fruits of their labour but there is still a way to go. This event got us thinking about inclusivity, what it means and how we can put it at the centre of everything we do. It was also great to see such a big turnout for the event and I am looking forward to supporting the coming events this year to build stronger relationships within our local community of women in business”.

Andrea Parkinson, Chesterfield FC Women 1st Team Manager, also attended the event. They held a very successful raffle with funds raised going towards securing referees for the remaining matches of the season.

As this event has been so popular and there is a clear demand for more Women’s networking in Chesterfield, Abbie at MMB Magazine is planning future events.

The first MMB Private Lunch Club Derbyshire will be held in Chesterfield town centre on the 14th May 2024, 12pm-2pm in Café No10’s new private dining area upstairs. Look out for more information but email abbie@mmbmagazine.co.uk if you are interested in attending.

DBCP help make Trailblazer Allstars’ World Cheerleading Championship dreams a reality

Trailblazer Allstars with DBCP banner

A cheerleading squad is off to the US in April to compete in the Allstar World Cheerleading Championships – the Olympics of the cheerleading world – thanks to a bit of help from DBCP, the Chesterfield-based building control services provider.

DBCP has made a generous £1000 donation to the Trailblazer Allstars to help towards their trip of a lifetime to Orlando in Florida where the championships are taking place.

The donation will be used alongside additional fundraising by the team, to purchase training kit, uniforms, flights and accommodation, entry fees and performance music at the international competition.

DBCP has a special connection to The Trailblazer Allstars; a member of its technical team is the squad’s ‘flyer’. By day, Jade Sheppard can be found processing building control applications, but in the evening and at weekends, she is the athlete who is lifted and thrown into the air during a stunt or appears at the top of a pyramid during performances.

In addition to DBCP’s donation, the squad have fundraised tirelessly for the trip over the last 12 months, after learning they had been invited to compete in the Cheerleading World Championships which are held every year.

Jade said: “We’re so grateful to DBCP and everyone else who has donated to help get us to the Cheerleading Worlds. It has made a huge difference. As a team we don’t receive any funding to help us get there so heavily rely on fundraising. All donations are helping make our dreams to showcase our skills on a huge stage a reality.”

Currently ninth best in the world, the Trailblazer Allstars are one of only three teams from the UK competing in the 2024 world championship held at Disney World. Jade and 19 of her fellow cheerleaders, together with coaches and helpers, will head to the US at the end of April where they will spend a week training before competing over two days.

David Pratt, DBCP’s Building Control Manager said: “We are all very proud of Jade and her team’s achievements and are delighted to support them in getting to the Cheerleading Worlds. Jade’s full of energy in the office at DBCP! If the team take this energy to the competition, we have no doubt that they will be bringing back a medal for the U.K. in April.”

At the Cheerleading World Championships, the Trailblazer Allstars will compete in the highest division (Level 7). This is the third time they’ve competed in Florida. During the 2022 competition they finished ninth out of more than 20 teams. This year the team is hoping to hit a new high following the creation of a non-tumble category.

The new category is designed specifically for teams that have limited training facilities and are unable to incorporate floor gymnastic displays in their routines. Jade added: “With the introduction of the non-tumble category, Trailblazer Allstars have a real chance against the US teams at the World Championship.”

If you would like to donate to the Trailblazer Allstars’ cheerleading world championships dream, you can do so via their JustGiving page.

‘Wonderful’ care volunteer’s friend received at Ashgate Hospice inspires her to take on Chesterfield 10K

Helen Hadley Ashgate Hospice running the Chestefield 10k

The close friend of a woman who received “wonderful” Ashgate Hospice care is running the Chesterfield 10K in her memory.

Helen Hadley started volunteering at the hospice’s reception in Old Brampton, Chesterfield, after her friend Margaret Umney died in March last year, aged just 44.

She will be one of hundreds of runners taking to the streets on Sunday 24 March for the event, sponsored by the Redbrik Foundation.

Helen, 45, from New Whittington, hopes to raise as much as she can for the charity, which cared for Margaret at home, allowing her to fulfil her wish of dying at home with her family by her side.

The route will start and finish in Queen’s Park and will see runners embark on a journey around the heart of Chesterfield, heading past landmarks including the town’s famous Crooked Spire.

Runners of all abilities – as well as volunteers – are being urged to sign up for the event.

Helen said: “When I ran the Chesterfield 10K a couple of years ago, Margaret was one of my biggest supporters; she was always sending me positive messages.

“It only seemed fitting to run the event this year in her memory. The hospice did such a wonderful job of caring for Margaret; the team at Ashgate ensured she was able to be at home with her husband Dan, and children Ellie, Shannon and Lewis.

“Being able to raise funds towards the charity’s care is definitely a big added bonus for me.”

Ashgate Hospice has once again been announced as one of the Chesterfield 10K’s charity partners, and participants are being encouraged to sign up and fundraise to help fund the charity’s vital end of life services.

Taking part will help people like Margaret, from New Whittington, who was diagnosed with breast cancer five years before she died.

She spent years undergoing intense treatment until she was told nothing more could be done.

Helen added: “The hospice is a place that so many of us are all too familiar with and has played a part in ours or someone that we know’s life.

“Volunteering there, I get to witness first hand, the amazing work that the team do. They receive less than 40% of their funding from the government, so every single pound makes an enormous difference.”

Other participants include David Hudson, from Wingerworth, who will have his parents, Brian and Elizabeth, on his mind whilst taking on the event, after they died in 2002, just four months apart. He hopes to raise £500 towards the hospice’s care in their memory.

“My father passed away after being diagnosed with bowel cancer,” said David. “I love hearing people’s stories about how they have coped with cancer and this has inspired me to raise money for Ashgate Hospice.

“It’s an amazing charity that does amazing things for sick people, including those who have cancer. I think my parents would love the work does Ashgate for people in the community if they were still with us.”

Entry into the 2024 Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K costs £25 per person. Participants can also choose to purchase a t-shirt for an additional £10.

Volunteers are also needed at the event to help with marshalling and with bag collection – anyone who is able to help is asked to complete this form or contact Ashgate Hospice’s events team.

If you have any questions about this event, please email Ashgate Hospice’s events team at events@ashgatehospice.org.uk.

CSALS’ lead trainer, John Hutchinson, showed the youngsters how to perform CPR and other first aid skills.

The session was delivered in the HUB at the SMH Group Stadium and funded by Auto Windscreens as part of their support for CSALS via the charity’s 999 Appeal.

Organisers of the Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K have confirmed the event is set to come back to the town next year and will take place on its new Spring date of Sunday 24th March 2024.

The route will start and finish in Queens Park and will be centred on the heart of Chesterfield, taking in major landmarks such as the town’s famous crooked spire. It will also feature service and cheer stations on the course and start at 10 am.

Full entry into the 2024 Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10k will cost £25, with Early Bird entry priced at £20 and available until 30 November.

As its name suggests, the Redbrik Foundation is once again the title partner of the 10k event, alongside other charity partners Ashgate Hospice, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and Cavendish Cancer Care. To date, the event has raised over £220,000 for a number of charities and good causes.

The Redbrik Foundation is a charitable trust which supports a number of local organisations each year, primarily seeking to enhance the lives of children and young people, the elderly or vulnerable and those with disabilities.

John Timms, Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10k Event Director, said: “We are delighted to be bringing the event back to Chesterfield for a third time in Spring next year.

“When we launched the 10k event back in 2021 it was with a view to deliver a fantastic race for both participants and the local community to engage with and enjoy. To have raised so much money for local charities is a wonderful legacy for the event and one that we are really proud of.

“As event organisers, we once again want to thank event sponsors and partners, and the wider community for their support.

“We also wish to thank our key partners, including Redbrik, as well as Chesterfield Borough Council.”

David Cooper, Trustee of the Redbrik Foundation, said: “We are very proud to support this event, which has so much goodwill from all involved. It has been great to give something back to the town, which has continually supported our estate agency business, Redbrik, since we opened over ten years ago.

“We love this town and we want to see it thrive. Events such as this help to do that, with huge numbers of people coming to Chesterfield from all parts of the country to support, contribute or take part. We can’t wait until 2024 already!”

Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, Councillor Tricia Gilby, added: “We are delighted that the Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10K is being held next year. It is wonderful that the 10K has previously raised so much money for many great causes and we are proud to partner with the event in order to support the delivery of such a brilliant, community focussed event.

Volunteers required for the 2022 Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10k

A call has been issued for volunteer marshals, to help at this year’s Chesterfield 10k. The Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10k takes place on Sunday 16th October, beginning from 10am at Queen’s Park.

Volunteer marshals will help to play a key role in the success of the event and will be stationed at various points around the 10k course, assisting and supporting participants, residents, and spectators.

John Timms, Event Director, said: “The Chesterfield 10k wouldn’t be possible without the help of our volunteer marshals, and we’re eager to make this year’s 10k memorable whilst supporting the local charities; Ashgate Hospice, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and The Redbrik Foundation.

“We are calling on volunteers to support the runners, cheer them on and get them around the course safely.

“The 10k truly is a community event, and volunteering is a great way to get involved without running the race itself. If you’ve got family and friends taking part, or if you’d simply like to get involved on the day, signing up to be a marshal is a great way to support the charities that provide extremely valuable services.”

James Branson, Senior Events Fundraiser at Ashgate Hospice, said: “Runners and spectators at the 10k last year all say how the atmosphere was fantastic, largely thanks to the support and enthusiasm of all our volunteers.

“If you can spare a few hours, it’s such a rewarding experience to witness the determination of the runners, as well as the amazing community spirit of the supporting locals.

“Marshalling is very straightforward, and you don’t need any experience. All volunteers are well looked after before and during the race.”

If you are aged 18 or older and are interested in volunteering at the 2022 Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10k, contact Ashgate Hospice at events@ashgatehospice.org.uk or call the Fundraising Team on 01246 567250.

Organisers of this year’s Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10k have announced that 500 runners have already signed up to the event, which is taking place from 10 am on October 16.

After the success of the inaugural event in 2021, this year’s 10k will follow the same route, giving runners the opportunity to challenge themselves and improve on their times from last year.

Event Director, John Timms said: “We have already had a fantastic response to this year’s Redbrik Foundation Chesterfield 10k, with lots of the runners from last year’s event already registered to take part again.

“Last year more than £59,000 was pledged for charities across the region including for our charity partners at the Redbrik Foundation, Ashgate Hospice and Bluebellwood Children’s Hospice, and we are so proud of how much good the event is doing within the community.”

A fantastic event for all the family, the 10k is open to everyone and spectators are encouraged to join the fun by cheering runners across the finish line in Queen’s Park.

This year the City Taxis 1k fun run will also be returning, taking place simultaneously with the 10k within Queens Park.
