Save a Life Scheme receives record sign ups at Chesterfield College

Local charity, the Community Save a Life Scheme (CSALS), visited Chesterfield College to celebrate the fantastic uptake from both staff and students with the programme.

Nick was astonished by the number of staff and students who have been involved saying, “The support and interest from the college has been incredible.”

Both staff and students told Nick that they have walked away feeling more confident due to completing the course. Nick adds, “A lot of people are fearful of the unknown and wouldn’t always step in to help in a difficult situation. Having the basic lifesaving skills that the course equips them with, gives them enough knowledge to save a life.


Support Dog’s successful visit to Chesterfield FC

A successful trial recently saw a support dog pay a visit to Chesterfield FC for a matchday experience.

When the Community Trust took over the running of Chesterfield FC, one of the stated aims was to make the stadium accessible for everyone.

The club recently received positive feedback following Pauline McAllister’s visit to the SMH Group Stadium with Gordon, a 22-month-old support dog, for the game against Oldham Athletic earlier this season.

Speaking about the experience, Pauline said: “We’re socialisers – not trainers. We’ve had lots of different experiences to get the dog used to it.

“We thought a football match would be really good to get used to the noise. We hadn’t got a clue on how to get in or how to get tickets but our experience was absolutely wonderful.

“I was quite nervous about going but we didn’t have any worries at all. The whole thing was lovely. I can’t thank everybody enough.”


Vicar Lane to host Pumpkin Patch this weekend

Vicar Lane is hosting a hauntingly good time for visitors this weekend, with a free Pumpkin Patch returning to the centre on Saturday 21st October.

From 10am – 3pm, a range of spooktacular activities will be on offer for all the family to enjoy. Visitors can take their pick of pumpkins from the patch while stocks last, and join in with lots of fang-tastic fun brewed up by the trio of witches.

Spellbinding makeovers will also be available from a themed face painter throughout the day, so visitors can transform into their favourite spine-chilling characters.

Sarah Bowler, Tenant and Community Liaison Manager said: “We are so excited to welcome local families back to Vicar Lane to get involved in lots of exciting Halloween activities. It’s sure to be a great day out for all!”


Chatsworth Walk Connects Nursing Students and Carers

Led by Derbyshire Voluntary Action’s Community Chesterfield project the Chatsworth Walk took participants on a picturesque journey from Baslow to Chatsworth House in the Peak District, providing not just breathtaking scenery but also a platform for important conversations about the experiences of unpaid carers and their role in healthcare.

This partnership event with the University of Derby, and Derbyshire Carers Association on 27 September brought together future healthcare professionals and carers for a day of connection, mindfulness, and dialogue.

The Chatsworth Walk underscored the power of community, empathy, and the willingness to engage in conversations that matter. By bringing together unpaid carers, staff, and students, this event highlighted the importance of understanding the experiences of carers, ultimately leading to more compassionate, communicative, and effective healthcare.

Jennifer Raschbauer, Community Chesterfield Project Director commented: “It was a lovely day with some brilliant conversations. It was wonderful to hear some of the shared stories and to see people learning.”

Inspire Design’s Lee Barnes takes the reigns for Clay Cross Town Board

The Clay Cross Town Board has announced the appointment of Lee Barnes to the position of Chair.

The Managing Director of Clay Cross-based Inspire Design Group, Lee is an existing Board Member and is one of several private sector representatives on the Board.

Lee will head all future Clay Cross Town Board meetings, which oversee the delivery and progress of the Clay Cross Town Deal.

As a North East Derbyshire resident and Clay Cross business owner, Lee has a breadth of professional experience in revitalising urban areas and guiding multi-disciplinary teams, with a strong commitment to seeing the town thrive.

As Chair, Lee plans to take Clay Cross’ local business scene to new heights for its residents stating, “I’ve got a really interesting journey ahead of me as Chair. I aim to make the most of this wonderful opportunity to help breathe new life into Clay Cross.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to move the town forward together, bringing new job opportunities, and more places to eat and drink and spend leisure time. As a resident myself, I am passionate about getting the best offer for us and am excited to lead us into the next phase of the Town Deal.”

So far, projects announced as part of the Clay Cross Town Deal include the regeneration of the town’s high street, along with a refurbishment of the Sharley Park Leisure Centre, which will be renamed Clay Cross Active.

Lee is also a member of Chesterfield’s Property and Construction Group, which aims to shape and drive forward collaboration, investment, sustainability and skills within Chesterfield.

CarMats.co.uk unveils 7,500 sq ft warehouse in Chesterfield

CarMats.co.uk, a business specialising in UK-manufactured tailored car mats to fit every make and model, has announced the grand opening of its 7,500 sq ft warehouse facility located on Chesterfield Trading Estate.

This new facility is set to play a pivotal role in the company’s ongoing expansion. The spacious facility grants the business the much-needed capacity to diversify its product offerings and creates job opportunities for local talent.

Ash Young, Founder of CarMats.co.uk, shared his thoughts on their new warehouse, the company’s growth journey, the significance of Chesterfield, and their commitment to local job creation.

He commented: “I launched CarMats.co.uk during the COVID-19 lockdown. At the time, I was also running a digital agency in Sheffield. I set an ambitious goal of achieving £1 million in revenue within the first year. Plus, it provides the much-needed space to stock a wider range of products, which is essential for our growth.”

Workpays and the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) held a recent meeting to discuss the importance of allowing staff members to grow their own skills through training.

The ETF aims to improve the quality of teaching and leadership in the further education and training sector. To do this, they look to give more training opportunities to independent providers.

Former Tupton Hall Student Lucy celebrates A Level success with DBCP apprenticeship

A former Tupton Hall Sixth Form student is celebrating her A level success by embarking on an apprenticeship.

Lucy Jones, who achieved three A’ Levels last week, including an A in Art, has secured a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship with DBCP, the leading provider of building control services across Derbyshire and Staffordshire Moorlands.

She has joined DBCP’s Chesterfield-based technical team supporting the company’s team of building inspectors.

She explained: “I am really excited to start my career at DBCP. University wasn’t for me; I wanted to get a job and start working immediately. DBCP has given me the opportunity to continue my learning with an apprenticeship. There is also the option to go on and do a degree level apprenticeship in building control and eventually become an inspector which really appeals to me.”

DBCP’s long-running apprenticeship programme is helping the business attract local young people who want to progress their careers within the field of building control. The company currently employs seven apprentices who are at different stages of their training, including degree level.

David Pratt, Building Control Manager at DBCP, welcomed Lucy to the business saying: “Apprentices like Lucy, are key to the building control industry addressing its current skills shortage. We’re delighted to have Lucy onboard and very much hope she chooses to build her career within the field of building control beyond her level 3 apprenticeship. There are many opportunities at DBCP and within the industry to build a long and very rewarding career.”


New Finance Director appointed at Hopkinson Waste Management

Bridge Help expands Business Development team

Chesterfield-based Bridge Help has appointed Iona Reid to its Business Development team.

Iona brings a background in property sales and lettings to the role, joining the short-term commercial finance provider from Keepmoat Homes where she was a sales executive. Prior to this, she was a lettings manager with a national estate agent.

In her new role as Business Development Manager, Iona will be working with Bridge Help’s broker network supporting them to secure bridging finance for auction purchases, commercial and semi-commercial acquisitions and buy-to-let properties, as well as re-financing existing loans.

Her appointment follows growth at Bridge Help and a surge in new enquiries and there’s no doubt that her expertise and enthusiasm will make her a great addition to the team.

BSP Consulting appointed as supplier to the NHS

East Midlands-based civil and structural engineering company BSP Consulting has been named as a supplier on an NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) Framework Agreement.

BSP won a place on the Healthcare Planning, Construction Consultancy and Ancillary Services (HPCCAS) Framework Agreement to provide civil and structural engineering services.

The appointment opens up a pipeline of opportunities for the company.

BSP managing director Carl Hilton said: “This is great news for BSP Consulting. Over many years we have completed numerous projects, including new build hospitals and health centres and the re-modelling on many existing hospital sites to help to improve facilities and patient care.

“Being awarded a place on this NHS SBS Framework Agreement highlights our expertise in this field and gives us the opportunity to increase our work with hospitals and other healthcare operators in the future.”

BSP was previously on an NHS SBS Framework Agreement as a sub-consultant but has now been awarded a position in the company’s own right. The framework agreement runs for four years.

“We are currently on more than 20 framework agreements, which is providing a wealth of opportunities for the business – helping to cement our position as one of the largest independent civil and structural engineering companies in the East Midlands,” added Carl Hilton.

BSP is an award-winning firm that operates across the UK, offering civil engineering, structural engineering, transport engineering, geotechnical and environmental engineering.

A remote robotics company focused on subsea operations, has appointed specialist B2B technology PR and content agency Roaring Mouse to help support strategic communications as the company moves to its next round of fundraising.

Based in Aberdeen, HonuWorx combines autonomous submarines, robotics, AI and advanced communications technologies to reduce the risk, cost and carbon footprint of subsea exploration and intervention. It enables a wide range of subsea activities to occur without humans having to leave shore.

HonuWorx has engaged Roaring Mouse to reach and help establish a ‘SpaceX of Subsea’ reputation for the company with prospects and potential partners in the European defence, offshore energy and ‘blue economy’ sectors, as well as potential investors.

Banner Jones advises on acquisition of Nottinghamshire quality cast stone products manufacturer

Banner Jones’ Business Legal Services department has acted for the shareholders in the sale of Nottinghamshire based stone products manufacturer Serene Stone Limited’s shares to Nene Capital.

The business, which boasts a wide range of quality architectural cast stone dressings and concrete solutions, has been acquired by Nene Capital, which will now look to accelerate the business’s growth trajectory over the coming years.

Primarily investing in UK-based SMEs, Nene Capital concentrates on realising long-term value and maintains an active role in commercial operations to support the delivery of strong financial outcomes.

Founded in 2011, the company has been involved in the design and supply of stone materials for highly bespoke projects across the luxury housing and commercial markets.

As part of the deal, Andrew Fielder Head of Banner Jones’ Business Legal Services department – supported by colleague and employment law expert, Katie Ash – advised the sellers on the transactional sale, as well as on the Settlement Agreements and on their Consultancy Agreements with the buyer moving forwards.

New appointment for Pinelog set to drive sales in independent holiday park sector

Judy Barwell has joined Chesterfield-based Pinelog Limited, one of the UK’s leading designers and manufacturers of luxury timber lodges and buildings, as Sales Account Manager.

She joins from Adlington, a developer of award-winning retirement developments. Within her new role Judy will work alongside Associate Director Paula Skelton in driving forward the company’s ambitions to increase its share of lodge supply to the holiday park sector.

She commented: “I am really excited to be working with such a high quality product that uses natural materials. The sustainability credentials of Pinelog are very important to me both personally and professionally.”

Judy, who lives in Dronfield, brings experience in property sales as well as having a design background. She previously worked in a range of design, development and supply chain roles in the clothing industry, as well as lecturing in design for a number of years.

She explained: “The role at Pinelog combines my technical, design and sales experience. As well as understanding the production process, I am able to guide purchasers through the entire process from initial enquiry to the design and delivery of a lodge.”

Her appointment follows the company’s relocation to a new, larger site in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, earlier this year. Prior to its relocation the company had been based in Bakewell since being founded in 1974.

The new, larger site at Sheepbridge has enabled the company to bring its entire production process under one roof, increasing both jobs and production of its class-leading lodges.

As well as the production of complete holiday lodges, components for the construction of timber Glulam framed commercial buildings designed and built by Pinelog are also manufactured at the site.
