KranLee Logistics wins International Entrepreneur of the Year award

Chesterfield’s KranLee Logistics has taken home another prestigious business award, with co-owner Karen Mosley being named International Entrepreneur of the Year (Sponsored by Solicitors4Landlords).

Karen was presented with the accolade at the 2025 East Midlands Real Entrepreneurs’ Awards, celebrating the region’s dynamic business leaders.

Now in its fourth year, the event recognised outstanding entrepreneurial talent from Leicester, Derby, and Nottingham.

With 27 exceptional finalists, the event showcased the diverse and innovative spirit of East Midlands businesses. The awards ceremony was set against the elegant backdrop of an afternoon tea occasion, providing a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere for all attendees.

Speaking on her award win, Karen commented: “Winning the International Entrepreneur of the Year award is more than a milestone, it’s a motivator. It tells us we’re on the right track at Kranlee Logistics, pushing boundaries and building something that resonates beyond borders. It’s recognition of the risks we’ve taken, the innovations we’ve introduced, and the relationships we’ve nurtured both domestically and internationally.

Guests at the event also raised £1,000 during the event for The Real Entrepreneurs’ Awards charity partner The Zinthiya Trust. The money will be used to provide school uniforms to 50 local children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

KranLee Logistics shortlisted as finalists for International Entrepreneur of the Year award

Chesterfield’s KranLee Logistics is celebrating a major award nomination, having been named a finalist at the Real Entrepreneurs East Midlands Awards 2025.

The company, based at Markham Vale is one of three finalists shortlisted for International Entrepreneur of the Year.

The Real Entrepreneurs’ Awards were recognise and celebrate those who have truly excelled in the face of adversity. It is hosted by the East Midlands Real Entrepreneurs’ Club, which was launched in 2016 and provides investors and entrepreneurs with new business contacts and ideas.

By shining a light on entrepreneurs who set up breakthrough businesses, saw dramatic growth, or even pivoted their business to adapt in the ever changing face of our economy, the awards their stories enabling others to learn and grow.

KranLee Logistics’ shortlisting is yet another impressive milestone for the company, having already scooped several awards in the past year, notably the Derbyshire Business of the Year at the annual East Midlands Chamber business awards.

The firm brings over 30 years’ experience of working within the freight forwarding industry. Directors Karen Mosley and Lee Wells apply their knowledge and passion for the sector, to provide a highly tailored and bespoke logistics experience for their clients.

Chesterfield Champions shine at Derbyshire Business Awards

Several Chesterfield businesses have been announced as winners at East Midlands Chamber’s annual Derbyshire Business Awards ceremony.

The wins showcase the importance of companies across our town, and the vital role they play in supporting the local economy.

Hosted by ITV presenter Emma Jesson, the Chamber’s Derbyshire Business Awards took place on 25th October in Derby. Awards were presented across 13 categories, in a ceremony accompanied by a three-course dinner and followed by live entertainment.

Kranlee Logistics, based at Markham Vale was a big winner on the night, taking two prestigious awards, including Business of the Year and Small Business of the Year.

Business of the Year is a special award, selected from any one of the category winners during the ceremony. The recipient then goes through to the regional and national British Chambers of Commerce Awards taking place in 2025.

Lee Wells (pictured), Co-Owner of Kranlee commented: “Winning this will elevate us so much within the industry and within the community. We’ve got loyal customers that support us so much, but this might expose us to a lot more customers.

“We’re all about service, all about personality. There’s the staff we’ve got working for us that that work so hard day-to-day, providing the personal feel that we give to people.”

The success for Chesterfield Champions didn’t end there… Chesterfield’s Global Brands were winners of the Business Improvement Through Technology award.

In addition, Laura Holland, founder and Managing Director of Dunston-based Ecotech Engineers, was crowned Entrepreneur of the Year.

East Midlands Chamber Chief Executive Scott Knowles added: “Derbyshire is fortunate to boast a wealth of businesses of all sizes that continually excel, further underlining the East Midlands as a Centre of Trading Excellence. Whether through innovation, approach to sustainability or superb customer service, the finalists and award winners this year were simply exceptional.

“The Chamber’s Derbyshire Business Awards bring together organisations from all over the county, across a wide range of sectors. To be able to network and build valuable connections over a three-course dinner, and at the iconic location of Pride Park Stadium made for an unmissable evening.

“I’d like to extend my congratulations to all the award recipients whose resilience, creativity and sheer hard work gave them this well-deserved recognition. KranLee Logistics nominated for major industry awards

Chesterfield-based KranLee Logistics has been shortlisted at the BIFA Freight Services Awards, hosted by the leading body representing the UK international freight services industry.

The business, which was founded by Karen Mosley and Lee Wells in 2020, is celebrating after being nominated for two accolades.

Firstly, ‘The Extra Mile’ award is for companies that can demonstrate innovation and customer care by adding value and exceeding customers’ expectations in relation to their international shipping requirements.

The second award is ‘Staff Development’ for businesses that can demonstrate comprehensive training programmes to keep abreast of changes in regulations, industry practices and general business matters.  The emphasis is on how the business encourages and develops all personnel to be their best and contribute to the success and direction of the business.

The BIFA Freight Services awards is in its 25th year, and comprises of 9 business categories.

The ceremony will be hosted at The Brewery in London where the winners will be announced.  The date of the ceremony is 18th January and will be hosted by Suzi Perry.

Karen Mosley, co-founder of KranLee Logistics said: “To be shortlisted for the awards for us is a significant achievement. We are a small business, so to be recognised and share the spotlight with some of the largest businesses in our industry is huge.

“We put effort into everything that we do, using our own internal tagline to ‘be deliberate.’ When we started the business in 2020, for both Lee and I, it was important to support our business community with their international trade and it goes much deeper than offering logistics services.

“We deliver international training and have recently signed a sponsorship with East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire) and Fidelitas International for the flagship course, International Operations and Procedures qualification (ITOPS).”

Speaking about the firm’s significant growth since being founded, Karen added: “We started the business in February 2020 following many years of experience in employed capacities, I have worked in international and logistics for 26 years, and Lee for 13 years.

“When we started, there were just the two of us based at home. We had a fabulous start with many companies and existing clients that we had worked with over the years joining us.  It was then after only two weeks we employed two further people to join us, as the volume of work that we got was overwhelming.

“The day one of those joined us was the day that the UK went into its very first lockdown with the second person joining us a week later.  The pandemic was obviously very challenging for us, especially as a six-week-old business but since we had set the business up as home-based we were able to adapt relatively quickly.  The resilience of our clients was immense too with many businesses totally re-designing how they worked so that they could keep the manufacture of goods going.

“We are currently at year seven of our business plan, after only 3.5 years in terms of turnover and profitability. We have very ambitious plans for the next 10 years.

“Business in Chesterfield is very special for us, we were both born and still live in Chesterfield, and we support the local community and absolutely love to be involved. Our town is very special and we promote it at every opportunity.
