Town centre events

1940s-Mining-Exhibit

Visiting our town centre is a must this October half term with a range of family markets and events taking place.

Why not grab lunch and enjoy shopping? Pick up unique products at Chesterfield Artisan Market. Browse the pages on our website for tasty places to eat and discover our independent retailers.

The kids can even have a go at being a market trader for the day at the Chesterfield Young Persons’ Market. It’s a great way of getting rid of old clothes and toys, whilst boosting their pocket money. Make sure to book your stall in advance!

Whilst visiting the town centre, make sure to visit the iconic Crooked Spire. On certain dates throughout October an November, you can even arrange a tour of the tower.

Visit Vicar Lane’s pumpkin patch and pick a free pumpkin before unleashing your inner witch or wizard in a potion-making workshop, where you’ll mix up your own brew-tiful concoction to take home!


Spooktacular events

Fang-tastic Halloween Festival at Matlock Farm Park

Whether you love getting dressed up, carving pumpkins or just soaking up the spooky atmosphere, there are lots of Halloween events happening in Chesterfield for the whole family.

Matlock Farm Park are hosting their Halloween Festival, with plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained. Whether you fancy pumpkin picking or taking a walk on their spooky woodland trail, it will be a day of fun for the whole family.

If the kids are hoping for a party to go to this Halloween, check out this family Halloween party! A costume competition, monster disco and games, it’s sure to tick the box.

Solve clues and hear stories at Bolsover Castle’s half term Halloween fun. You’ll have a phantomtastic day!

If you love carving pumpkins, head to Village Pumpkins where you can enjoy a pumpkin patch experience. Pick your own, ready to take home for your Jack O’Lantern.

Enjoy a Halloween treasure hunt and fancy dress party at Ringwood Hall Hotel. There are sure to be some tricks and treats along the way!

Renishaw Hall host an annual Halloween Trail, which is always very popular! Expect a spooky twist as you weave into the woodlands and gardens. Plus, a tasty treat awaits in the Visitor Centre for all who succeed!

Want to try something different? How about a Halloween Canal Cruise? Come along in fancy dress and don’t forget to keep an eye out for ghosts!

If your kids would love to be a witch or a wizard, check out Matlock Farm Park’s Wizard Training School! Children will learn potion making, Quid-eech and ‘101 Introduction to Wands’!

Fancy being an archer for the day? Bring out your inner Robin Hood or Katniss Everdeen for a Halloween-themed archery session!

Do the teenagers need entertaining? Take a look at the Bolsover Castle Ghost Tales event – storytellers will guide you on a bone-chilling journey through the castle. 16+. Or, why not accompany them to the Great Historic Ghost Hunt, where you’ll have chance to tour Chesterfield’s haunting past.

Dare to visit Rose Cottage for a Halloween SpooktacularSpine-chilling scares and heart-pounding thrills await you. The spooky walk is for those aged 12+, and there are games and pumpkin carving for younger visitors.

Discover the Maize Maze at Ashover Family Farm – can you find all the SCAREcrows hidden inside? A fun day out for the whole family, including your four-legged friends! Don’t forget to take your camera for plenty of picture-perfect moments. Plus, you can hand-pick your own pumpkin from the patch!


Nights that will go off with a bang

Bonfire night is one of the most exciting occasions in autumn! Enjoy coming together with the community for wholesome celebrations.

Enjoy a spectacular fireworks display at Chesterfield Panthers Rugby Club, along with attractions like a glow stall, licensed bars, and hot food and drinks.

Watch the sky light up at Chatsworth Bonfire & Fireworks event. Plus, there will be plenty of food and drink vendors to keep everyone happy.

Love bonfire night but hate the noise? Dronfield Hall Barn is hosting a no bangs light spectacular, so you can enjoy the celebration without the racket!


Half term activities & events

Looking to take a break from Halloween and bonfire themed events? There’s lots more happening in the town, so you can make the most of time together.

Travel back in time for a Roman Exhibition, where you can explore what Roman life was like. There are even soldier and warrior training sessions taking place!
